Prevent the conquistadors from spreading christianity through the Americas and Pacific.

Have you thought about how you would do that?

It'd probably be easiest to just prevent them from setting sail in the first place. If that fails, get a warning out to the indigenous people.

Lets sabotage the ships then. Did they have explosives back then? How can we sabotage the ships?

I think I will use my time machine to fight crime. I will go back in time and execute known serial killers.

That should be fun.bigsmile

Works for me.. would you mind stopping by 1972, and make sure i don't smoke? That'd be swell, thanks.

Okay, I'll do that. Do you think you will listen?

Prolly not, never did listen when i should have. ohwell

What would you suggest I do to convince the you of the past?

Poison their water supply before they set sail.

I think we all have a few things we'd like to change. I still smoke, but i've been using a new e-cig.. it's ok. One step towards quitting.

Nasty and expensive habit, not to mention the health risks. Anyway, Jean, not meaning to derail the topic.

You didn't derail the topic.

In considering a trip into the past one must seriously consider not only what they want to go back and change, but how they will do it.

Going back in time does not guarantee you will be successful in your mission.

It is hard enough to be successful in missions here in REAL time. The only advantage to going into the past is having the knowledge of what you want to change.

The same kind of change can be initiated right here, right now if you could know what the future actually holds. You can know what the future holds if you think about it.

I call it the law of momentum. If you keep doing what you are doing, then you will keep getting what you are getting and going in the same direction.

Before you go back in time, you have to make a plan. You will not have magical powers. You will be just like everyone else. You have to do your research. Get in, do the deed, then get out. Your time is limited. If you stay too long, you will get stuck there.

It is like in that show "Quantum Leap." You will take on a body that will not be your own. If you leap back into your own past, you will take on your younger self's body. If you don't get in and get out fast, you will forget where you came from and end up having to live your whole life over again.

To do that one would have to know where it began and who organized it. That's a very tough assignment.

Knowing the future is not "having magical powers."

If I knew the future in general, and every person I looked at or spoke to, I knew the date and manner of their death, how would knowing that be magical?

If you can go back into the past, how much about the future (which is now) would you actually remember? Do you remember everything you did yesterday? Do you know what happened in the world last week? Did you watch the news and do you remember everything that happened last month?

If you went back in time 50 years, how much about the future would you actually know or remember?

Here is a good time travel assignment, John Wayne Gacy.

I would not go back to eliminate him before his two children were born. That might cause a huge ripple. He got out of prison after being convicted for sexual assault on June 18, 1970.

I would not go to his parole board hearing to try to keep him in prison because I would not know how to convince them that he was a serial killer.

I would wait for him to leave the prison then do a 'death wish' execution on him.

But before I took this time travel assignment, I would learn everything possible I could about him.

**
If I quantum leaped to June of 1970 I would probably land in my own body. I would then have to figure out a way to get to Chicago to do the deed.

So I would need to examine my own life and find out where I was and what I was doing in June of 1970. I was 21 years old. If I landed in my 21 year old body... and took a trip to Chicago.. and killed him and then I got caught, my own life would have been altered and I may have gone to prison myself.

I would not be the same person I am today if I did that.

There must be a better way. I need to quantum leap into someone else's body and perhaps ruin their lives. mmmmmmm

This is harder than you might think...

IF I could quantum leap into his body in prison, I could kill myself (him) while in his body and then leap back home at the moment of his death.

That would require a lot of skill getting in and out of bodies at will. I don't think I have that much skill.

Very risky proposition.huh

John Wayne Gacy:

In the spring of 1968, Gacy was indicted by a grand jury in Black Hawk County for allegedly committing the act of sodomy with a teenage boy named Mark Miller. Miller told the courts that Gacy had tricked him into being tied up while visiting Gacy’s home a year earlier, and had violently raped him. Gacy denied all the charges against him and told a conflicting story, stating that Miller willingly had sexual relations with him in order to earn extra money. Gacy further insisted that Jaycee members opposed to him becoming president of the local chapter organization were setting him up.

However, Miller’s were not the only charges that Gacy would have to face. Four months later Gacy was charged with hiring an eighteen-year-old boy to beat up Mark Miller. Gacy offered Dwight Andersson ten dollars plus three hundred more dollars to pay off his car loan if he carried out the beating. Andersson lured Miller to his car and drove him to a wooded area where he sprayed mace in his eyes and began to beat him. Miller fought back and broke Andersson’s nose and managed to break away and run to safety. Soon after Miller called the police, Andersson was picked up and taken into police custody where he gave Gacy’s name as the man who hired him to perform the beating.

While in prison Gacy adhered to all the rules and stayed far from trouble. He was a model prisoner, realizing that there was a high possibility of an early parole if he remained non-violent and well behaved. Eighteen months later, Gacy’s hopes came true: his parole was approved. On June 18, 1970, Gacy left the confines of the prison gates and made his way back to his place of birth in Chicago.

1. South America, 3114 BCE. If you wanted to find out why Aug 11th was so important to the Maya, you'd naturally want to arrive a few months or years prior. I'd also visit Egypt, India, Japan... pretty much everywhere while I was there to see how humans were living back then.

2. Prevent the conquistadors from spreading christianity through the Americas and Pacific.

Other than the one guy who wanted to witness the birth of christ, "to get the date right," It seems like the majority of people aren't going back that far, probably within their own lifetimes.

My second choice would be a get in, get the job done and get out. But if I did go 5,000 years in the past, I think I could live with getting stuck there.
