Why when I tell people that I never drink alcohol before and never will that try to get me to drink? I don't understand why they keep trying.

Why when I tell people that I never drink alcohol before and never will that try to get me to drink? I don't understand why they keep trying. Because they are idiots? I respect anyone's decision not to drink because that is what being friends is all about. |

I see your not easily persuaded

Because a drunk does not want to be observed by a sober person. They know they look like idiots.

Its getting to the point that I don't want to go out anymore Well if your friends were smart they'd buy you whatever non-alcoholic drinks you wanted so they'd have a DD to drive everyone home safely! |

I had the same problem. Here is what you do if you want to fit in with drinkers without drinking.
The easy way is to order a non-alcoholic beer with tomato juice if you like those and most people won't notice. If they do notice tell them you would love to have a real beer but you are on medication that will make you really sick if you do. (They feel you are probably passing judgement on them for drinking so they are trying to "corrupt" you.) You could also tell them that you are a designated driver and it is your turn to stay sober tonight. I heard one guy turn down drinks all night by saying: "No thanks, I prefer narcotics." Or, "No thanks I don't mix narcotics with booze." After a few hours, they will be too drunk to care or notice what you are doing. |

They live close to the bar so no one is thinking that

Also, telling them that "I never drink alcohol before and never will.." sounds a bit like the beginning of an attitude or sermon against the evils of drinking. So they want to bring you down because they feel you think you are making better choices than they are, so you must feel superior to them.

Be careful someone does not slip you mickey or a date rape drugged drink. There is a bar in my town where that happened to a few people.
One guy woke up in a field in the middle of the morning and didn't remember a thing. ... missing time. |

I don't feel I'm superior to anyone, I say that so people don't ask me to drink, it don't work |

I don't see why people like to drink anyway Because alcohol is a wonderful social lubricant when used properly. People have been using it for this purpose for 1000s of years. Why re-invent the wheel? I didn't drink until I was in my 30s. But then, I discovered it's virtues and I've been a moderate, social drinker ever sense. I may go months without a drink, but when the occasion calls for it, I'll have a few. |
