German and Native American on mothers side
Spanish and Italian on fathers side. I have no interest in seeing Germany, I would like to see Spain and Italy though, there are some distant family members still in Italy, so I have been told. |

What is your ethnic background? Where is your mom’s family from? Where is your dad’s family from? Have you ever been there? What was that experience like? What traditions have been passed down in your family? Who were your favorite relatives? Do you remember any of the stories they used to tell you? What are the classic family stories? Jokes? Songs? Italian, German, English, Cherokee(?) My great, great grandparents on my dads side came from Italy, not sure what part, but I guess it starts with an M. lol Also, the last name was changed when the came here, the full last name, not sure what it was. That's about all I know so far. |

German, Irish, English & French. I am not sure the percentages or the sides (ha). But Several generations were settled in Ohio. But now the family is settled across the country. My children have Italian thrown into that mix (ha).

What is your ethnic background? Hungarian. 100% Where is your mom’s family from? Where is your dad’s family from?
Hungary. Have you ever been there? What was that experience like?
Yes. Dire economic situation. at least 10x worse than USA, both unemployment, living standards, corruption, etc.. What traditions have been passed down in your family?
Every male person in family has been in the military in one way or another...one nations' army or another. Who were your favorite relatives?
My grandfather. My mom's dad. I never met my other grandparents. My dad's dad was killed in jail for opposing communism in '56. Do you remember any of the stories they used to tell you?
Yep, my mom's side grandfather fought in war. On the Axis side, against the soviets. He got shot 3 times as a medic. He shared plenty of stories. What are the classic family stories? Jokes? Songs?
About my dad (R.I.P.) , he was 99% sarcastic in his entire life. Nobody could hold back the laughing, although first he sounded scary, until everyone got it, that he was messing around. There is plenty of that robbed off on me. |

Irish with a tiny bit of German somewhere in the background (or so my paternal Grandmother claimed---she felt she was too good to be Irish only, the more I found out about her and my Grandfather the more I am disappointed in them)
My mother's family came from Tipperary and Kilkenny counties in Ireland and I would love to go visit Ireland. My parents have been there a few times and I can look at the pictures they bring back for hours. Unfortunately I didn't get to meet my Mom's parents, her mom passed when Mom was 19 and her father passed away ten years before I was born. Stories from my grandparents....never happened because children were to be seen and never heard from and Heaven forbid you sat down and told them a story from the past. ![]() |

German and Native American on mothers side Spanish and Italian on fathers side. I have no interest in seeing Germany, I would like to see Spain and Italy though, there are some distant family members still in Italy, so I have been told. germany was wonderful. I lived on a farm near bremerhaven, all the roads were cobbled, but the closest real city was Hamburg (bremerhaven is just a coastal town)and there's a part of Hamburg called Blankenese along the Elbe (I believe)it was beautful, very cosmopolitan and the germans like/love americans & were so nice the food was so-so but the wines heavenly and the beer in the rathskellers - we had a blast - went to bremerathskeller in Bremen - the most famous - where the statue from the children's story "Bremen Town Musicians" is. Much of the altstadt was destroyed in the war - so much interesting history there but the restorations & rebuilding is beautiful ( german perfection) also at a village called worpesvede which is an artists willage - very quaint & lots of fun |

Is there anyone from the U.S. East Coast with an ancestor named either Charlotte (Lottie) Pratt or Charles Lovine? They lived in New Haven, CT during the early 1900s. I've been trying to trace my family back before them, but I am having a lot of trouble finding records.
Charles is supposed to be a 2nd generation German American, born sometime around 1870 or so. I can't find any records of his parents or immigration. His family likely arrived around the 1840s or 1850s. As far as Lottie Pratt, I can find sketchy information at best about her family. There are enough records that if I could get something definite and solid, then I could trace her family back further. I'm just missing that one good link. Any help that can be provided would be appreciated. My dad has cancer, and may only last another year. I would like to finish tracing back his family before he dies, just to share it with him. As mentioned in a previous post, his father blocked all attempts to research the family. If I could do this for him, it would give him a small measure of pride before he dies. Thanks, Chris |
