Topic: Big earthquake due now on West Coast Of US | |
---|---|
Simon Winchester claims that the recent earthquakes around the "Ring of Fire" of the Pacific Ocean predicts a large earthquake perhaps in California or the Pacific Northwest. He thinks it will be "BIG".
The theory is that all the movement which has already happened will focus stress into this "fourth corner" of the Ring of Fire. Here is a short video of his theory. http://cosmiclog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/03/14/6268123-is-japans-quake-part-of-a-cluster |

i'm thinking that too...or one of cali's volcanoes blowing up... i think the "big one" will happen somewhere between washington to alaska
japan had another 7.1 last night... that is three quakes of 7 or better in the last 2 months there |

i just counted 16 quakes in japan today alone, from 4.6 to 7.1..

My suspicion based on watching the US geological survey data my prediction is this, Either Crescent City or San Francisco will receive the next big one. My money is more on Crescent city buying it first. BUT if San Francisco buys it then Cobb Mountain which is a dormant volcano will erupt, I am pretty sure of this happening. There has been daily earthquakes there and steam coming from 'The Geysers' nearby are not producing anywhere near as much steam as they have been a few years ago. Frankly I think the BIG ONE as people call it will be a massive earth movement and there will be a multiple earthquake striking the entire west coast. This could indeed be followed by Yellowstone finally going BANG! Yellowstone is a huge Volcano as in the whole park is a giant geological time bomb that goes off every six hundred thousand years. It is over due for a burst but it has been showing signs of wanting to go BANG. The entire area is bulging upwards and its rate of growth has been increasing gradually over the years of it being recorded. The last eruption of Yellowstone coincided with a extinction event that wiped out the Megafauna of North America previous to the settlement of mankind. I say 2012 is when Yellowstone goes POP. Yep, we re talking HELL ON EARTH if Yellowstone pops! Been nice knowing everyone east of the Rockies!
Just for some information, the estimated Pyroclast from Yellowstone will cover everything in a circle that spans from Wyoming in the center to Texas as its extreme edge and the same distance into Canada in 400 plus degree soot, ash, Hydrogen Sulfide gas, CO2 gas, CO gas, traces of Helium and other Noble gasses, Pompeii style with boulders flying through the sky crossing states. It will be raining gravel in California, Oregon, and Washington. The shock wave from the blast will probably kill everything in a circle that spans all the way to the edge of North Dakota and just as far going south outright so they will be spared a prolonged and painful death. We are talking an eruption that would be the equivalent by estimates to be like letting a hundred 5 megaton bombs go at once. The Russian Tzar Bomb was 53 Megatons and it would have wiped Paris off of the map completely. Anyone within 600 miles of the blast would have gotten third degree burns on the exposed side of their bodies. Yellowstone will be ten times that at least! We are talking blackened sky for America. But we are not the only ones with a huge time bomb like that hiding in our midst. In the south pacific there is a Caldera even larger and it likewise is VERY active like Yellowstone! So make hay while the sun shines folks! |

Yellowstone has a history of erupting every 600,000 years or so, and the last eruption is dated at 640,000 years ago |

I think the Cascadia Subduction Zone is prime for something big.
This area can produce mega thrust quakes and is due. |

The "connection" would mean the earthquakes in Japan could lead to earthquakes in California or North of California. Volcanoes are related but not directly connected to other earthquakes.
The earthquakes are signs of one plate going under another plate. The deeper plate melts, floats to the surface, and provides magma for a volcano. If one plate is pushing on the Pacific plate from the East, it can build up the pressure of the Pacific plate pushing on the West. The oceans spread along the Atlantic and close along the Pacific. Japan and California are both subduction zones for the same plate. |

|
Given that both California and Japan are having many smaller quakes the are relieving 'pressure' in small doses.
The big one will come in another place. One where the other point of the triangle for the energies involved recieves unrelieved pressure. That will 'relieve' in a single momentum. |

England hardly ever gets natural disasters, just a few floods but heck if we get a killer earthquake, god knows, it'd be a disaster cause we aren't even prepared for small earthquakes over here

I've been looking at the AlertMap...wow...already showing small quakes in Ca.

The worst would probably be Cascadia off the coast of Oregon. It's underwater so the tidal wave could cause more damage than the earthquake. It is also "due".

That's what I was reading. What about the ones they are having in Alaska too?

That's what I was reading. What about the ones they are having in Alaska too? i think some of those are volcano related, but it is part of the cascadia subduction zone... there have massive tidal waves launched from that area...one hit hawaii in the 50's or 60's that was well documanted |

I think Soufie is sitting right in the middle of it all! |

I've been looking at the AlertMap...wow...already showing small quakes in Ca. California has small quakes at the rate of several per day... and has for a very long time. |
