except that I have never claimed anyone else MUST pray for any reason I simply stated, that one scripture about prayer in the bible is not some evidence of the ONLY reasons for prayer You are wringling it, MsHarmony, and you are getting goofier and goofier. You stated somehting but your claim was not the topic. The topic was that the bible said what prayer is for; it said one thing only, and you keep saying what you believe what else it is for, but none of those are in the bible, so that's wringling, and the more you wringle, the goofier your statements become. I have to sign off. If I want to handle goofy, I can go to McDonalds and pray in the drive-through window for a Big Mac. But I don't want to handle goofy, so I am signing out. 'Till later. She quoted on verse. To know the entire message you have to take all the scriptures. One verse says to pray for strength in the lord and or not to sin. Another verse states ask and ye shall receive. There are many other verses on this as well. So you can not say that God told us to pray only for strength in remaining sinless. God has told us to ask for anything, just emphasizes that we should ask for strength. |

I am not being goofy at all, just because you are not satisified with my answer. but I have answered the questions pretty directly. I can review if you wish I posted BOTH what the bible says about prayer and what I think about/ why I take part in prayer then, in a post to cowboy you wrote 'Point a verse in the bible that God is happy or sad, and I believe you. ' to which I posted 'Luke 3:22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased. along with one of the several definitions of th word PLEASED then you responded with 'We can give god pleasure. But can we make him happy? I would like to find out if it is at all possible for God to feel happy. Pleasure can manifest many ways: sex is one, hearing music is one, eating and drinking is yet another one' which could, by the same argument you keep using, be considered as 'goofy' as my final post which equated what was mentioned in one scripture with what may or may not be true in ADDITION to that scripture you are clever, I am clever, we are all so clever but the discussion deserves not to be discarded as 'goofy' when one has not real DEBATE to prove someone elses opinion WRONG or conclusion inaccurate |

simple answer is we dont always get what we want, I think rolling stones said it... we also dont always get the answer we WANT and we construe that as not getting an answer we sometimes get the answer NO which we refuse to accept because we believe by 'getting an answer' that we will receive an 'acceptable' one by our standards And also this is why we are told to be patient. Not ask now and and expect now. God answers all prayers, just in his time and when he wishes for them to be answered, when he feels we are deserving of such a prayer. |

I hate to tell you Abra, but he has shown you the true way. You ask and your prayers have been answered. I'm sure many people off the net through your life has told you about God, Jesus, and the Holy spirit. People on this site all day long tell you about God and show you the way. It's not that God hasn't told you, it is that you do not listen and or ignore what he has said. I hate to tell you Cowboy, but you have an extremely limited mind. You even confess to wearing blinders and refusing to look beyond the biblical picture of God. You're right that people have been telling me about "god" throughout my entire life. The only problem is that they have all told me many different versions of God. Not just a single version. In fact, you may be totally unaware of this but the Ancient Greeks took Zeus and company just as seriously as any modern day Christian takes the biblical stories of God. So what we call today "Greek Mythology" is also a valid view of God. I've learned about the American Indian view of Wanka Tanka. I've learned about the gods of the Mayans, and the Aztecs, and the Vikings, and the Celts. I learned of spiritual pictures of reality from the Eastern Mystics, and that two is a form of "god". The witches have told me about the Moon Goddess, and the Sun God. The ancient Egyptians also had quite elaborate descriptions of God as well. So, yes Cowboy, just about every human being I've ever met had a story to tell about "God". Or a very convincing secular argument of why it's logical to conclude that there is not God! So I've heard it ALL, my friend, and I find none of it to be 100% convincing. So your claims that the ancient Hebrews speak for God is just another drop in the ocean of man's creation stories. It has absolutely no special qualities that makes it any more believable than any other stories. In fact, as I've explained many times over, the Hebrew stories contain extreme contradictions, absurdities that suggest that it should not be given one iota more credence than Greek Mythology. Of all the spiritual philosophies and creation stories I've ever heard, some of the stories of the Eastern Mystics are without a doubt the most credible by far. ~~~~~ Besides, I wasn't speaking about gambling and placing FAITH in a random religion by merely guessing which one might be true. I was speaking about being contacted by some REAL CONSCIOUSNESS. If people want to claim that God is REAL, then why should they be so shocked to hear that I would expect to be CONTACTED directly by this supposedly REAL entity? What would be so hard about that for a God who can do anything? But, no, religious people expect me to place FAITH in their fairy tales. They KNOW that there is not actual God to back them up. And this is why they need to argue that we believe in the fairy tales instead. If there was a REAL conscious God like they claim, then we should be able to speak with him/her/it/them directly. So if you can't produce an actual God with your creation myth, then why should I consider it to be anything more than a myth? Especially when the specific one that you're trying to sell is riddled with self-contradictions and utter absurdities that are impossible to resolve. At least the Eastern Mystics give me a SOUND reason why "god" doesn't speak to me directly. And their reason is amazingly clear and simple to understand. It's simply "Tat t'vam asi". You are it. If you want to speak with God you must speak with your very own spiritual essence. ![]() |

It is my experience that our prayers are always answered. Some people however can't understand when the answer is no or not now. That is why I feel they loose faith. They don't get the answer they want or expect. The God or Father (or what ever you choose to call Him) that I serve helps me to grow spiritually and unfortunately for my worldly views of what I need (or want) are not always the same as His. Yes, He does give me some of my worldly desires and gets me out of bad situations, but not if it will harm me spiritually. I was raised in a religious family (both maternal grandparents were very active members in our family church), but for me a true relationship with God is more than just the religious beliefs that were forced upon me. Once I got past that then my relationship and understanding grew. Even a good thing is not always the right thing. Example: Supose that I was going some where that I thought was important, a job, visiting my mother, a doctors appointment or what ever. As I get ready to leave I can't find my keys. I look all over and pray to God to help me find my keys. After searching for several minutes I find them in a place I looked several times (sounds familiar to anyone). Here's an easy to see senerio. You get down the road and see an accident that had happened only a few minutes earlier and had you been there you more than likely would have been in it. Less ovious senerio. You go down the road and it's just a normal trip down the road. What you don't know is that a truck swerved or a deer ran across the road or some other incident happened a few minutes ago. Since you weren't there, there was no accident! We were late or missed our appointment, but because God said "wait" before He allowed us to see our keys (which were right in front of our eyes the whole time) no one was hurt or killed. So when I don't get the results I want, I thank the God I serve for protecting me from thing both seen and unseen.
