I was having this discussion with a friend. My sister and I are different extremes from each other....as extreme as day and night.

She doesn't like to rock he boat even if she gets walked all over

I'm more of the type that I will rock the boat and even tip it over, if needed

I like to keep the peace and avoid tension so have let things go that I should have reacted to but I can and surly have rocked and tipped over some boats in my time!

in Real time, I just dont believe in unsolicited advice or opinions and rarely give them

If I am asked, I am truthful but compassionate

there are times I don't want to ruin the boat so I will just push someone overboard

I'm definitely a boat-rocker. I've always been one of those people who have "a problem with authority". I've never understood how people could stand to get walked all over by an authority structure that they know is wrong without at least protesting. I guess it's a weakness. Maybe I've seen too many John Wayne movies.

I guess I should have said in my description....I don't rock the boat for the heck of it. I don't like drama myself, but I won't back down from something I see is wrong.

This post comes from my personal life. Most of you know that I live with my sister's family because my sister is disabled and I take care of her. Well her 21 y/o daughter is dating a butt head that does NO work outside of the house or in the house. He never cleans or anything. He has gone as far as telling my sister they should kick the 17 y/o son out of the house for not doing his chores. Hello McFly....he doesn't even pick up after himself either. I am always picking up cigarette butts from the yard (his). He told my son (who is working 2 part time jobs because full time work is hard to find here especially when you are only 20 y/o) and he doesn't have a job himself.

My sister doesn't say much to him about any of this and when she does it's in a "nice" way. I have gone off on him myself and called him a punk (that was a sight to see lol)

So he is still living here and not contributing financially or anything. I take care of my sister, clean houses to help financially (and I can be close to my sister if she needs me) and I do dishes for 6 people (not including any guests) by hand (dishwasher is broken) and I clean up the kitchen. I stopped cleaning the rest of the house since I stay in my room and I refuse to clean up after grown kids that are healthy and can pick up after themselves.

When I got into it with the bf....my sister and brother in law thought I was too harsh. I got onto him for tattling on my nephew when he had NO room to open his mouth.

whew....glad I got that out and that is ONLY the tip of the iceberg lol.

Hey Rose, I'd say I'm like you but I know you better than that . I can be pretty hard nosed when it comes down to the worst. Toughest I ever recall being was with my daughter, who when she turned 18, told me she was an adult now and I couldn't tell her what to do. When she stepped over the line, I told she was right to a point there was really only one thing I could tell her to do... get the f* out of my house. Took her about 6 months to learn but she learned, and she did move back in for around a year after that.

sounds like me Dave. I tend to do the tough love....then again there really isn't love for Beth's bf but you knew that too

Yeah but we both also know your sisters actions are not about love for her daughters bf, it's about love for her daughter. Of course you and I agree she's not doing the right thing for her daughter or even herself, but that's still her choice to make.
