Topic: Spring Break, a father's worst nightmare? | |
---|---|
I have arrived at a point in my life that I have been dreading. My daughter has just informed me she is going to Florida for Spring Break!!! Now I know she is a smart girl and growing up in the New York area, she knows how to take care of herself. She has been going into the city with friends since she was 15.
I want to have a talk with her before she goes to point out a few of the things she should avoid doing, just to be on the safe side. Things like keeping anything she is drinking while she is out in her hand or plain site. Not taking drinks handed to her by someone she doesn't know and trust. Don't let someone you just met bring you a drink from the bar. Basically you don't want to drink anything that you haven't personally witnessed every step of the way from the Bartenders hand to yours. You hear stories every year about young women getting slipped the "date rape" drugs at spring break. I just want to make sure she has a good time and doesn't become a victim. I don't think I could afford her tuition if I am in jail for killing anyone who would harm my daughter. LOL Having never attended Spring Break myself, can anyone give me any advise to pass on to her. I mean besides spending Spring Break with her really cool Father, I don't think she'll go for that. She is a smart kid and I'm sure she'll be Ok, but she can be a little to trusting and unfortunately Spring Break attracts predators as well as fun loving college kids. Any advice about what she should look out for would be greatly appreciated. |

She is going to Cocoa Beach which is not quite the zoo that Daytona is. I'm not to concerned just want to make sure she is aware of what could happen. I also have a friend, actually my old babysitter, that lives less than an hour from Cocoa Beach if she needs help.

Spring Break = a milestone of a young adult's life.
Tell her to be her, have a wingman(woman) at all times, and while keeping an eye on her drink and not taking any from strangers is a good idea, keeping her hand over the opening of her drink is important as well. Stay in public/populated areas, well-lit as much as possible. Plan ahead, she should know where and when she is going to be places. And as much of a pain in the *** it will seem to her ask her to give you a 2-5 minute call at a pre-designated time everyday so you will simply know she is safe. Safety in numbers, situational awareness, and thinking ahead will help her have a good time safely, and help you sleep a little bit easier at night. Much to the disagreement of the media, the majority of Spring Break excursions go off without a hitch. Just be glad she's not going out of the country... I went to Cancun when I was in college, and sometimes I'm surprised I made it home. |

Having a daughter. A father's worst nightmare? A quote I remember, "When you have a son, you only have to worry about one penis in the neighborhood. When you have a daughter, you have worry about every penis in the neighborhood".

OMG I remember when I was in High School and my parents would say no because I was a girl. My brother's were free to do whatever they wanted to do...is that really fair?
In my eyes when the guy gets the girl preggo, it is the boys problem as well as the girls. I have told my boys IF A GIRL IS GOOD ENOUGH TO LAY WITH, SHE IS GOOD ENOUGH TO BE THE MOTHER OF YOUR CHILDREN. SO BEFORE YOU LAY WITH THEM MAKE SURE THEY WILL MAKE A GREAT PARENT. PS I THINK THE PENIS COMMENT WAS NAUGHTY!!! |

Spring break was a no go for me and my 3 sisters, but luckily we live in a high concentrated spring break haven . . . so they came to us.

Think you could have a chat with my daughter for me? She wasn't to excited about the idea of spending Spring Break with her old man. LOL |
