Just when liberal-leftists thought it was finally "their time" to lead center-right America, kicking and screaming, into a stifling socialist "utopia," a veteran psychiatrist is making a powerful case that the "hope-and-change" ideology motivating them is actually a mental disorder.

For more than 40 years, Rossiter has diagnosed and treated over 1,500 patients as a board-certified clinical psychiatrist and examined more than 2,700 civil and criminal cases, both state and federal, as a board-certified forensic psychiatrist retained by numerous public offices, courts and private attorneys. He received his medical and psychiatric training at the University of Chicago.

Rossiter explains with great clarity why the kind of liberalism being displayed by Barack Obama can only be understood as a psychological disorder.

"Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded," says Rossiter. "Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave."

"A social scientist who understands human nature will not dismiss the vital roles of free choice, voluntary cooperation and moral integrity - as liberals do," he says. "A political leader who understands human nature will not ignore individual differences in talent, drive, personal appeal and work ethic, and then try to impose economic and social equality on the population - as liberals do. And a legislator who understands human nature will not create an environment of rules which overregulates and overtaxes the nation's citizens, corrupts their character and reduces them to wards of the state - as liberals do."

Dr. Rossiter says the liberal agenda preys on weakness and feelings of inferiority in the population by:

* creating and reinforcing perceptions of victimization;
* satisfying infantile claims to
* creating and reinforcing perceptions of victimization;
* satisfying infantile claims to entitlement, indulgence and compensation;
* augmenting primitive feelings of envy;
* rejecting the sovereignty of the individual, subordinating him to the will of the government.

"The roots of liberalism – and its associated madness – can be clearly identified by understanding how children develop from infancy to adulthood and how distorted development produces the irrational beliefs of the liberal mind," he says. "When the modern liberal mind whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, the neurosis of the liberal mind becomes painfully obvious."

Sounds to me like the famous "Oh-yeah-well-what-about-you" push-back. I like wht this article ad to say.
Several years after a Federally funded study found that conservatism was a mental disorder a Right Wing psychiatrist has released a book, timed for the election cycle, claiming the same things about Liberals. Are we to believe that this is a coincidence?
Little known shrink and political hack Dr. Lyle Rossiter has released a new book entitled "The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness" that is designed to feed the red meat hunger of Right Wing ideologues at a time when the Conservative movement is on the ropes after seven years of incompetence and corruption under George W. Bush.
Most of its claims are not so subtle reversals of the conclusions reached by four distinguished scholars that were funded by the US Government in a study to discover the roots of conservatism.
The report "Political Conservatism as Motivated Social Cognition" cost $1.2 million and was supervised by the National Foundation as well as the National Institutes of Health. It found that conservatism is essentially a set of neuroses rooted in "fear and aggression, dogmatism and the intolerance of ambiguity".
In an article published in the highly respected peer reviewed scholarly journal "Psychological Bulletin" the authors state:
"This intolerance of ambiguity can lead people to cling to the familiar, to arrive at premature conclusions, and to impose simplistic cliches and stereotypes."
Among the sufferers of this heart-breaking malady the researchers studied President George W. Bush and found him to be a "textbook case" of the madness. Among the early warning signs that he exhibits is "his preference for moral certainty and frequently expressed dislike of nuance." The scientists believe that it was Bush's aversion to shades of gray and the need for "closure" that led him to ignore intelligence that contradicted his beliefs about Iraq's non existent WMD's.

At the time that this report came out conservatives were outraged and dismissed the whole thing as merely the opinion of the scientists involved. It is highly amusing now to watch conservatives fall all over themselves to tout Dr. Rossiter unscientific and undocumented political scree simply because it gives them comfort in the face of their impending humiliation at the polls come November.

and the APA says what about this illness?

lol, oh, its just one individuals overwhelmingly slanted opinion and not an ACTUAL diagnosis of anything,,,

the child analogy always tickles me becuase I know of no home where the children work and give their money to the parents to take care of the home,,,lol

the government OF the people(officials are elected), FOR the people(officials serve the needs of the people after they are elected), BY the people(the people provide the FINANCES for the elected officials to manage in a way that serves the people)

I know of no way that millions of people can provide money for the national household and ALL get what they want back all the time, but I do see a certain ENTITLEMENT that should come from their INVESTMENT

the victim analogy always makes me think of a different type of lunacy, called denial

people needing help doesnt make them victims, it makes them human

It's far more instructive to look at what the APA has to say about Narcissism in its DSM. By regurgitating the pap from right wing extremists, the people who declare anyone that isn't an extremist conservative to be mentally ill are really only getting the Narcissistic Supply they crave so badly to satisfy their addiction to bile.

You want to see what's tearing the country apart? It's these people-- who polarize EVERYTHING and make an "illness" out of it.

Yanno, I thought America was founded on a diverse political bedrock where we could debate endlessly about our differences. This sort of Bad Science is an attempt to shut down that debate. It, and the people who promulgate it, deserve the contempt one usually reserves for the 'reporting' found in grocery store tabloids.

Idont know it seems to me that the liberals on this sight are the ones who are hard working and productive and most the right wing are liveing on unemployment or workers comp or social security. I am sure biteing the hand that feeds you is also a form of mental illness but I am no phyciatrist.

What's usually going on is something called 'projection bias'.

According to Sigmund Freud, projection is a psychological defense mechanism whereby one "projects" one's own undesirable thoughts, motivations, desires, and feelings onto someone else. 'Emotions or excitations which the ego tries to ward off are "spit out" and then felt as being outside the ego...perceived in another person'. It is a common process.The related defence of 'projective identification differs from projection in that the impulse projected onto an external object does not appear as something alien and distant from the ego because the connection of the self with that projected impulse continues'.

In one example of the process, a person might have thoughts of infidelity with respect to a spouse or other partner. Instead of dealing with these undesirable thoughts consciously, the subject unconsciously projects these feelings onto the other person, and begins to think that the other has thoughts of infidelity and that the other may be having an affair. In this way, the subject may obtain 'acquittal by his conscience - if he projects his own impulses to faithlessness on to the partner to whom he owes faith'. In this sense, projection is related to denial, arguably the only defense mechanism that is more primitive than projection. Projection, like all defense mechanisms, provides a function whereby a person can protect the conscious mind from a feeling that is otherwise repulsive.

Projection can also be established as a means of obtaining or justifying certain actions that would normally be found atrocious or heinous. This often means projecting false accusations, information, etc., onto an individual for the sole purpose of maintaining a self-created illusion. One of the many problems with the process whereby 'something dangerous that is felt inside can be moved outside - a process of "projection"' - is that as a result 'the projector may become somewhat depleted and rendered limp in character, as he loses part of his personality'.

Compartmentalization, splitting and projection are ways that the ego continues to pretend that it is completely in control at all times, when in reality human experience is one of shifting beingness, instinctual or territorial reactiveness and emotional motives, for which the "I" is not always complicit. Further, common in deep trauma, individuals can be unable to access truthful memories, intentions and experiences, even about their own nature, wherein projection is just one tool.

Trying to prove that a way of other peoples way of thinking is craziness is a clear form of desperation by conservatives. There are no facts in this report just sweeping generalizations trying to be passed off as facts. Im not saying liberals have all the right ideas but this is just ignorant close minded thinking

I don't think it's even that. What I think it is is, "Okay, the liberals did some psycho-analyzing of Conservatives that we found hurtful. Well, we'll just show them! We'll find some party hack that nobody ever heard of and has a license in Psychiatry to write a book showing that they are the crazy ones". It really means nothing.

John Dean and others have written quite a bit of material on the Authoritarian Personality. I think that this is the stuff that has their panties in a wad.

Msharmony, it was never the intent for "the people provide the FINANCES for the elected officials to manage in a way that serves the people". This money was intended to come from tariffs. Unfortunately, government schools don't teach American history, so people like you wind up repeating such false facts. Im not sure what 'facts' u refer to as I basically just posted my opinon about someone elses opinion

I will leave past 'intentions' up to personal interpretations

but as it stands, people contribute quite a bit of their money to the government, its not just for them to SIT on, but to do something with(logically speaking, something that BENEFITS the people)

America is polarized because Progressives will never accept the political ideology of the right, and the Conservatives will never acknowledge the truths of the left. The Conservatives believe that this is their time in history and are pushing aggressively to consolidate the power that they think they have in order to "close the deal" and achieve their Conservative paradise. Why would anybody be surprised that there's going to be push-back.
