You ever had prison food? 3 meals my azz. You are lucky if you get an apple........

prisoners are people try living in four concrete walls in the summertime and tell me you dont need AC to survive? try living in below freezing temperatures and say you dont need heat to survive? why do people on the streets DIE in the winter and in the hot summers, because the body DOES need a certain amount of temperature regulation..... just being 'indoors' doesnt always do quite enough to provide that these people broke the law, sure, but MOST are not violent offenders so why should they be treated like complete crap, as if those on the 'outside' dont EVER break and bend rules,,,, I dont think TECHNOLOGY like cable or internet or cell phones is necessary and is a privilege that those in jail dont need to have, but Im sure that is an exception and not the rule when it happens and Im sure prison still remains pretty much a crappy place to have to be Not trying to disagree here, however I do have experience with this issue. My ex husband was in a State prison and now he is in Federal prison. He himself will tell you, life there is way better than on the outside. I would think that that really means something is not right with the ex, wouldn't you? I already knew that, that is why he is there. But go back and read. He gets paid to be there and has no bills and gets everything free. We pay for them to be there, why are we paying them to work there? |

I swear people do things to get locked up because they KNOW they will get better treatment and everything they want and need for FREE!.. I highly doubt this... What's to doubt?..they even get free medical care when people who are good law abidding citizens are being told by Obama "Pay all these high medical expenses when you can barely afford to live as it is or I will make you pay one way or another." I know people who have done time....I don't know any people who intentionally got them self locked up for 3 meals and medical care. That is why I doubt that statement. I know alot of people who have gone to jail as well..hell..related to one actually..and he would rather be locked up, living off the jail system than having the responsibility that being a free man brings him which is why he's been committing in same crimes over and over again since he was a teen ager and now he's in his late 50s..lol. |

If 'we' are to determine what is necessary and not necessary
for prisoners, we first need to decide if 'we' are jailing them for rehabilitation or punishment.. some will be realiseed one day..isn't the goal to have their behaviors changed from those behaviors that got them locked up in the first place? when a man is stripped of all his dignity, he has no reason to change. |

You do realize that they make like 5 cents an hour to do work that it would cost the prison 10 dollars an hour if they paid a civilian. Giving them something to do that can be considered constructive is actually a good thing, Our penal systems suck that is for sure. We do not rehabilitate anyone and we usually let out men who are worse off then when they went in there. They are killing each other in there in droves violently and with all the diseases they are spreading amongst themselves. In this situation we have to make sure that they are not treated inhumanely as best we can but the system still fails them and us. |

In some cases..Yup!..bologna is too much to ask for..like for the guy who was the reason I started this post..the one who stabbed the girl 8 times?..Yup!..too much for him. the problem is, they dont personalize the treatment to the criminal, it would be more costly to do so and require more manpower instead, because MOST are not in for stabbing a girl eight times, but committing non violent crimes instead,, and because those are housed along with the more violent types,,they give them enough to maintain their human dignity |

Ok..I was watching this news program called America Now,this morning..It's a pretty interesting show..very informative..today they did a story on a guy in prison using a cell phone to have a face book account..They actually showed some of his posts bragging about how he can have pretty much anything he wants now that he's in jail and NOW he doesn't have to pay for it cuz,of course the state does..He actually used the account to talk to family,friends and his wifes family..Oh yeah..Did I mention that he lists his marital status as "widowed"..which is true..because HE killed her..stabbed her 8 times!..Why in the hell are people in PRISON able to be online!?..I swear people do things to get locked up because they KNOW they will get better treatment and everything they want and need for FREE!..What the hell happened to the days of prison being all about bread and water?..These people are living better than most of the free world..It's insane..Should these people not be monitored? We had a prison guard on our military base and he told us that if the prisoners were served the same food we ate they would riot. So, criminals are fed better than the military. How sad is that? |

Agreed. My friend's dad and brother are prison guards. The same guys get thrown in jail over and over so they don't have to work or spend winter on the streets. We have hard working homeless people here that have jobs but can't afford a place to stay so they live in the streets or the drop in Centres. However the prisoners have a warm bed; three square meals a day, free medical, colour tv, etc. Well you get the picture. So yes, its very common to hear of guys getting thrown in jail for a place to stay and food in their stomach. Its not a punishment for them; its a reward. I was told if I wanted a free University Education; then I should get myself thrown in jail otherwise I would pay for it. What the hell? |

How about the guys in the field or in Afghanistan? You obviously have never served in the military. Its not like a civilian day job that is 9 to 5 and you have a restaurant on every corner. |
