With with all the need that is out there, if you give, where do you give and why. And if you just can't now who would you support if you could?

My dollars are in short supply these days since, as many of you know I am again unemployed, but I always give to my mail person at xmas, (hey that is a tough job out there in all weather and I love getting my mail) but more to the point, I give first to firefighters because they are my heroes and god forbid I ever need them they will be here pronto whether they know I have financially supported them or not, those men and women just jump on a truck and respond!!!

I also donate to my local food banks cause hunger just stinks.

So who so you give to and why?

Dollars, time, old coats, old blankets, money....it's all good!

But I am wondering where we send our dollars and what do we know about the charities we send them to?

You hear so much negative stuff about how your money is used....I donate locally because it is needed and because I know where my dollars are going.

Those are all such good ones!!

I give some to cancer research but not as much as one might expect given that I lost my husband to cancer. I prefer to give locally, close to home.

I agree with the local think but my sons mother (the x) has diabetes in her family that could affect my son. his wife has it in her family making it doubly bad for my grandson so I feel I need to donate to the research.

I donate to whomever calls or knocks on my door. I believe that when people desperately need help they ask for it. I have a sponsor child to which i donate $500+ dollars a year for, and in the future i wish to have another one. I also donate to the RSPCA since i love animals and they never have enough money helping the innocent poor lonely pets in the street who were injured. I also used to donate money and participate in the MS Read-a-thon. :P

They have to give me proof as to what charity they are, and i don't mean my home phone number. My friends have friends to which are part of charities then they call me, we talk etc. Like i'm going to donate to someone who calls me "i'm a charity of such and such". But mind you, not many people come knockin on my door.

I deal with scams all day at work. I just hate to see good people parting with their hard earned money for the criminals.
