i help with foodboxes out of my home
i have given up to 12foodboxes in a month

i had this one guy that left a message on craigslist that needed a foodbox as to find out i had given him a foodbox in the past for i have a log book on who i have given food to

and this guy came by and got a foodbox
shortly after he posts again so i called him back and he said oh my neighbor needed a foodbox so i gave them mine
so once again i gave him a box

and guess what he posted again
and i didnt respond
but i did find out that there was a couple that actually took him to the store and bought him over $200 in grocerys

he was scamming everyone he could
i put a red flag by his name for he wasent going to get a foodbox from me again

Most cities have a local food bank that you can donate to and they are able to hand it out to those truly in need. There will always be fraud, but do what you can to minimize it by not becoming a victim.

whomever crosses my path in need (and not too proud to ask), when I am able

I used to give more to charities but I know people personally that need a hand. Most won't ask. Some won't even take it........smokin

That's true. The people who seem to need it the most are the most resistant to taking it. And, most won't ask.

I'm one of those who won't ask either. Recently I was out of work & had 2 people from this site offer to help & I declined. My landlord let me do some cleanup, etc on some rental property to pay the rent. I'm not above doing meniel jobs to make ends meet. I won't take advantage of people. That's just not my nature.

That's why you have to be tricky. I told a friend of mine once who was a single mother that I had a friend who's freezer broke down and was giving away some meat. Just a little white lie...........smokin

I donate clothes and such to the local charities here in town, and any eggs that we don't eat or sell within two weeks go to Helping Hands.

I work with the local farm rescue here in town, and with other animal groups online. Also donate a couple of the animal conservation groups.

And the MS group that mom subscribes to. Every little bit helps.

However, if they start getting pushy, I ask for a supervisor and let them know I will stop if I keep getting harassed.

Yes, this can be a problem, once you give once some organizations can get very pushy. Hadn't thought of your simple solution, so thanks!

All in all we seem like a giving bunch (which doesn't surprise me!) I love all the ways we give including ideas here for those of us with limited money but maybe time...

I donated food for families and gifts for children over the holidays. I'm also looking for a local no-kill animal shelter to donate time to.
