Java is important to have

It's almost always good to have the latest update for anything. Updates are typically for bug and security fixes.
Does java really update that often on windohs? Just be aware of where your updates are coming from.

And while java is important to enjoy the net (and more), globally allowing java script could be a bad thing. Use a browser and/ or plugins that restrict what java script can do and allow by sites and apps that you trust.
