I have never posted in the advice thread before because I feel like I have to keep everything in. But I moved 60 miles from home to take a new job. It's not going to well right now and I feel like I've been stabbed. Ya, I know there are no guarantees, but I don't really know what to do. I am locked into a lease so I can't move back home till next year (not even sure that's what I want to do anyway). I feel betrayed because I took this huge step and the job isn't what I thought it would be.

I know the usual advice, but I am wondering if anyone else ever had a similar experience and what you did?

I found better work and left. A lease is nothing more than a piece of paper. Now if you could find another job locally that is better it works out better but if you need to relocate do not let a lease hold you back. The land lord may not like it but why hold yourself down to something that is not profiting you?

People will say, but if you break a lease it will haunt you. BULL! There are laws protecting you too and one of them is that if you moves specifically for a job that fell through you can move on. As long as you paid your rent on time is all that matters!

That does suck and I'm sorry. Making a move for a job is always risky. Good advise about the lease. You can break a lease. If you like the area look for something else around there. Can you talk to your boss about it?

Depends on who you rented from. These big places will go after you Big time they are required to find a new tenant to limit there losses. but they have so many empty units to rent they will leave you on the hook for the rest of the rent. Little guys like me dont really want to go to court. And will try to rent it asap. thus if we do take you to court it will only be 2 months rent.

I could talk to my boss but I don't want him to know I'm unhappy. I do not want to disappoint him. That is very important to me, and I really want to stay where I am - I am not sure what to do to make things go better -

There are outs in any lease. you have to find them. Also look into landlord tenant rights. Even people cannot be stuck to a lease if "It imposes upon income "ie. you need to move for a job," health or safety. Usually there is a fee to break a lease but if it is more than two months rent you can fight it.

Knowing your tenant rights is very important.

well that landlords have already broken the lease by misrepresenting the services at the complex, and they'd never be able to find me anyway if I did decide to vacate.

But I prefer to not do anything like that. I'd rather just wait out the lease, really

Sometimes jobs get better as you go along. What sucks?

I have not been in the situation.
But is there anything to stop you from
looking around while in the
current position?

thank you -yes it is important. There are things I really like here. I am wondering if I just have a combined case of holiday blues & homesickenss being this far from home for the 1st time at Christmas...tears

Like tonight I skipped a Christmas Party at work because I couldn't bring my sons and it made me homesick to think about being there in a crowd where I didn't really know anyone

IDK - it's just been a little routine & boring lately and I am wondering how long to wait it out or if it'll get better - or if I'm just homesick...

No, but it makes me feel disloyal and I don't like changing jobs. It's a lot more stressful than what people realize. Plus there r a lot of things there that I DO like...

You are just being a worry wart. The job will all work out and the holidays will pass. Once spring is here it will be all worked out. That is a beautiful place to be in the spring.....smokin
