The article is very slanted, just the title alone 'MUSLIM CONGRESS RULES IN FAVOR OF FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION ' is slanted , considering the FACTS in the story 'The NU clerics ruled that female circumcision should not only be viewed as “sunnah” or “recommended but should be made mandatory throughout the Islamic world.' like my previous analogy, this would be like congress giving parents the legal authority to spank their children and then me writing a piece claiming that 'US CONGRESS RULES IN FAVOR OF CHILD ABUSE' Huh? Since they are recommending that female genital mutilation be mandatory in the Islamic world - they are certainly in favor of female genital mutilation! it is more like congress making it mandatory to cane your children periodically when they have done nothing wrong!  
where did 'they' recommend 'mutilation' as opposed to 'circumcision( a practice still recommended in WESTERN culture for boys) What is a clitoral circumcision? I mean, I guess it nice and all that they emphasis "just the tip! only a little!' but I mean, WTH, why are they clipping the **** at all? (Rhetorical: I know some of their reasons, I just don't approve and don't consider it comparable to male circumcision). I get the feeling that they are using the word 'circumcision' just to soften the perception of the action by using the same word as used for a familiar, approved action. But I could be wrong. I'm curious what makes a clitoral 'circumcision' a circumcision, and different from "clipping of an arbitrary piece of ****'. On the topic of abusing language, I also think its messed up that all of these actions are termed 'mutilation'. Mutilation, to me, is when you severely damage something, often to the point where its been rendered unrecognizable. All of it (clipping, cutting, piercing) sounds awful to me if done against the persons will (and infants can't give informed consent) - but simply clipping, cutting, or piercing is not always mutilation. Actual mutilation does occur in some of these subcultures, and thats even worse. I think the term FGM is a biased term to being with, lumping mutilation with slight clipping. Both sides are using biased terms. Because of anatomy there is no comparison between male circumcision which removes a small amount of completely irrelevant vestigial and unnecessary superfluous skin and what is called "female circumcision" but which actually destroys and mutilates much of the most important sensory parts of the woman's tissue. When a man has a traditional circumcision with no complications there are virtually no ill effects in function or sensation. Men have no trouble achieving orgasm and in fact it is quite possible that their sensitivity is increased by the procedure. When a woman undergoes their very different procedure they are frequently left with greatly reduced sensation, pain, urinary problems, incontinence, predispostion to more frequent infections and many times it even affects their ability to walk. So you see medically these are very different things, anatomically, procedurally and most importantly the male procedure produces no harm at all to the patient but rather has been demonstrated beyond doubt to have many benefits to the patient with the lowest complication rate of any surgery. The female "procedures" produce no documented benefit to the patient and many horrible consequences and numerous frequent complications while destroying much of the woman's sexually sensory tissue. This is why it is called female genital mutilation in medically correct terms. Basically this is because a woman does not have a foreskin which is comparable to a man and the female procedures do all kinds of bad permanent damage to the patient while the male surgery does no damage at all and has important medical benefit. This is why the medical community uses the terms circumcision for boys and mutilation for girls. The traditional male circumcision is the widest practiced and safest surgery there is with literally hundreds of millions of perfectly safe and trouble free operations. Female mutilation on the other hand produces a host of terrible consequences. Read about it and learn something about the difference but the crux of the issue is the anatomical difference between men and women. There is no valid comparison between male circumcision and female genital mutilation no matter what it is called. Religiously female "circumcision" is an abomination. It severely harms your innocent defenseless daughter. Without a doubt. This is a procedure which will cause them needless and possibly intense suffering. No caring parent should ever be encouraged let alone mandated to do this truly horrible thing to their daughter. Male circumcision is an easy choice. Your son will not be harmed by it and the surgery will result is less chance of HIV transmission and other benefits. It is recommended by many doctors and the World Health Organization and for good reasons. |

Thanks.I'm sure all those millions of women who went through the worst pain in their lives and will continue to suffer and even die from complications will know there is women in America who are having painless surgery,on their own free will,to make their breasts look more attractive. Well I agree that its wrong to call clip clipping 'circumcision' - the very word 'circumcision' means, I think, something like "cutting around" (as in the periphery). This applies to cutting the foreskin, since it envelopes the head. It does not apply to clipping off a piece of ****. I'd rather no one's **** got clipped, ever (barring medical necessity), but I wouldn't say that all these procedures are 'mutilation'. My female friends with labia rings didn't "mutilate" their junk. Cutting the labia off or sewing it over the opening...now that's crazy talk, and borders on mutilation. This is why
it is called female genital mutilation in medically correct terms.  I understand that the medical community also uses this terminology, but saying its 'medically correct' suggests a degree of objectivity which is obviously absent from the way this term is used.

not sure where you get your info at, but the jews started circumcisions-i am circumcised and i am neither Jewish or islamic.... It would appear that he meant both FC and FM, not both female and male. I'm pretty sure he is wrong, though, to say that both are 'exclusive' to Islam. I've not checked my facts, but I've heard from knowledgeable people that similar actions have been done by a few tribal peoples here and there in various parts of the world. |
