“I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity…There is not glory in battle worth the blood it costs…When people speak to you about a preventive war, you tell them to go fight it. After my experience, I have come to hate war…War settles nothing.” – Dwight Eisenhower, U.S. Army General and 34th President of US (from 1953 - 1961)

"Violence is impractical because it is a descending spiral ending in destruction for all. The old law of an eye for an eye leaves everybody blind...Violence is immoral because it thrives on hatred rather than love. It destroys community and makes brotherhood impossible. Violence ends by defeating itself. It creates bitterness in the survivors and brutality in the destroyers." - Martin Luther King, Jr. (1958)

"When war, as in these days in Iraq, threatens the fate of humanity, it is ever more urgent to proclaim that only peace is the road to follow to construct a more just and united society. Violence and arms can never resolve the problems of man." - Pope John Paul II (2003)

I read in the newspapers they are going to have 30 minutes of intellectual stuff on television every Monday from 7:30 to 8. to educate America. They couldn't educate America if they started at 6:30.
