Silverton couple handed out condoms on Halloween

SILVERTON, Ore. (AP) -- Some teenage trick-or-treaters received condoms in their bags on Halloween in Silverton.

Daniel and Kathleen Harris told The Statesman Journal the free condoms were part of their effort to promote health.

They also handed out toothbrushes as well as candy bars.

The father of one 14-year-old girl who received the condoms, Daniel Cote, was offended and said it was inappropriate to give them to children without the parents' consent.

“If she wants to hand out condoms to her teens that’s fine," Dr. Daniel Cote said. "But on the other hand I don't believe she should disrespect my values. and assume it's okay to provide my children and other people's children with the same contraceptives.”

Kathleen Harris says giving the condoms to the 14-year-old was a mistake. She says their usual practice is to ask teens if they're 16 or older and to give them a speech on safe sex.

Its my belief whether its true or not I don't give a hoot, but I bet the parents who are offended by someone handing out condoms will be grand parents prematurely. Everybody thinks they know their kid and their kid doesn't have sex...WRONG! Not all kids do but you never know if precious lil Vicky is out giving it up or not.

so what if they get condoms.

That's no worse than what a friends kid got. Cans of corned beef, sardines and SPAM! How many of us whined when we used to get an apple?

condoms still arent 100% safe

Well atleast is better then getting those stupid corn candies haha

but i love candy corn.

In school we used to get those candies so many times and so many of them I just used to trade them for other candies =)

Sorry bro, its like the honor students I knew in HS. They did more kick a s s illicit drugs than I did.

While I do agree with b, you are going around asking for free
stuff, something like that is inappropriate-I'd be pissed. There
are plenty of other times and places for that type of "help".

If you think that's bad I heard where I live they were givin out weed lolli pops they dont get you high but they taste like weed...still better than getting that corn candy lol =)
