Topic: Cell Phones We All Have Them....

Actually no, we don't all have them. I don't have a cell phone. I never understood the need for one. I really don't understand the fascination with them. I find them to agents of rudeness and completely bad for society as a whole.

Believe me, it's nice to have the ability to "not be available 24/7."

Then you would shut it off??

If there were no cell phones think of how many more people would be poor or out of a job. Think about it..

You know those things have only really been available for public use for about 30 years. Unemployment is actually higher now that it was then.

Cell phones really aren't necessary. There just isn't that much info that is needed "right now." Like TxGal said above "just in case something happens." Well how often does something happen? Will your immediate knowledge of it make it less tragic? Will you be more satisfied by knowing something horrible happened immediately? I'm thinking the answer is no.

I realize there is a large segment of society that would literally freak out if there wasn't a cell signal. I'm just not one of them.
I think that the constant bombardment of microwaves can't possibly be good for people. Sure you personal phone might be low frequency, but what about the fact that there are another two or three hundred thousand of those things going off in a fifty mile radius? No, these things are bad, and yes, I'd shut them down if I could. Maybe then people would actually talk to the people they are with instead of someone someplace else.

I haven't had a house phone in over 6 years.
At $40 a month I figure that has saved me around 3K.
My cell phone is all I need.
I am also not available 24/7 because I can and do turn it off or ignore it while I'm busy.
IMO texting is best invention since e-mail happy

I only have a cell phone because I need a cell phone, it's my contact with the outside world. I'd rather talk on the phone than email and text.
a little more conversation than typing...seems it's easy to type, harder to actually have a conversation. Everybody gets to hide behind their screen name and text messages.

This is NOT directed at anyone..jmho

Cell phones are the devil and we should all pray for salvation! Nothing we have to say is so important that we ignore common courtesy for it. It has made us cold, oblivious and ignorant of all around us. Uhhhh hold on, I have a call.

In this modern technological age, I must be the only living human totally lacking in cellular phone capabilities.

No you're not.

Don't need one. Won't have one.

when i worked in IT my blackberry was like an appendage, i was never not at work it seemed. i did that for years. after leaving the IT world, i went without a cell, went thru a little withdrawal, and made it to the other side. i don't miss it. perhaps that's because everyone i know has one and i can easily reach them, lol.

idk, technology is convenient and cool, but i would still find a hand-written letter from a friend in the mailbox...way cooler.

Actually I would have to go along with RoamingOrator with this the only reason I use mine is due to I don't have a land line phone...

If I'm driving heck I let it ring and never text while I'm driving.

But in no way do I feel it has anything to do with most jobs nor has anything to do with unemployment. Some jobs you have to communicate by phone but then they normally supply you with a phone since they require you to have one.

I do feel that texting instead of talking takes away a lot more then most even realize it causes more not to be social with others. As some said they hide behind texting and forget what good ole conversation is all about at times...

I don't own a home phone because I would rather have a cell phone. There is so much more I can do with a cell phone. Plus, I don't ignore the people I'm hanging out with and I hardly touch my phone when I'm with other people.

Also, I have a daughter and if anything happened to her I would want to be available 24/7 for her sake. If someone calls or texts me that I don't want to talk to I just ignore them and answer them later. Also, if something bad were to happen I want to be able to get help.

It's all a matter of opinion. To each their own I'm not saying there is a right or wrong answer here because there isn't.
