Topic: What Is It About The Bar...

...that freaks some people out? The restaurant I work at has a bar area. The bartenders are not allowed to serve tables and have to rely on customers coming to the bar to eat and drink. But not a lot of people want to eat there. Their response: If I sit there, I'll start drinking. Really? We even have booths by the bar. Once in a while, I get customers not wanting to sit by the bar because they don't want to be near alcohol. Really? They're not AT the bar. What? Is the bar evil? Does it give off some type of bad influence to cause a non-alcoholic to want to drink?

So what are your thoughts about eating at or by the bar? I will tell you this...the bartenders lost a lot of money after they were told they can't serve tables.

As long as I get food, I don't care where I sit.

I just don't eat in any establishment that serves alcohol -- I can avoid the whole problem that way.

I can understand if it is the following: Parents have their kids with them; someone is in uniform and are not allowed at the bar; some of the guys get loud and throws around cuss words (rarely happens)...and that's all I can think of.

I second that one! drinker

But some people may just to go to a restaurant without the influence of booze.
Maybe they are recovering alcoholics or when they it turns out bad.
To each their own.

i only possess a personal understanding, and barely that.

alcohol is a drug. there are opium dens with finer dining than some restaurants that serve alcohol.

i drink, but understand not wanting to be around it, as some find alcohol as perverse and horrible as heroin.

Since I'm old school, I don't like to mix my bars with my restaurants (<--- they charge too much $$$.)

But... if the situation ever did arise, I'd like to think I could do whatever without worrying about whoever.

- If people spent half as much energy on themselves as 'they' do worrying about what other people think about them... the World would be a better place.

... indifferent

I'm currently a hostess (until I find out whether the military will take me in). On slow days and/or nights, I try to get customers to just have lunch or dinner at the bar. It's not a fancy restaurant. It's almost like Applebees. I just feel bad for the bartenders. Bored to death.

i think if you have more than two, it's not as easy to carry on a conversation with your party at the bar, mebbe that plays into it too? i'll do both, kinda depends on if we feel like sitting next to or across from each other more than anything.

I have a feeling I would rather sit across from you if I had 2 drinks......

I understand what you mean here. It's hard to get larger groups to sit at the bar (more than 2). Unless they ask to.

The bar is shaped like this: │__│ Communication is not too bad if you can catch the corner sides of the bar.

Sometimes I drink, sometimes I don`t and I`ll sit at the bar either way,,,,beats waiting for a table! Alcohol won`t tempt me if I`m not in the mood for it, that`s all
