i believe that a great amount of people derive a certain comfort, and even pleasure, from sustaining themselves in misery.

only a rare portion extend his or herself towards true expansion of understanding.

what's the appeal of the misery mentality?

i've heard there is safety and security involved in it.

i've also heard that fear and laziness play a part.

this isn't really philosophy, so i put this here.

misery is easy, happiness takes effort - many people are lazy.

I agree with fear and laziness playing a big part in misery. I also think some people simply have a negative/miserable disposition - in that light it may just be normal or acceptable!

I work with a guy that’s always miserable. I talk to him when I'm having a bad day. It makes me feel good about the issues I have. Cheaper then therapy hahaha

I know someone like that. She is always negative. I was warned about her. But I am not the type of person that judges other from heresay. So I got to know her and found out it was true. And she is lazy. Went to her house a couple of times and the place is a mess. And its only her and her husband. We all went out to eat one time and she was so rude to the waitress. And thats when my big mouth couldn't keep closed. I had to say something. She is my boyfriends sister. So I was trying to keep peace for the family. But I am not the type that lets anyone belittle someone. So now there is an awkwardness. Oh and she lied to the SS saying she is disabled. Bunch of ********! She is not welcomed into our home. (more to the story then i said here) I just think ppl that have a negative personality are crippling themselves from a life full of happiness. No one has a perfect life. But you make the best out of what you have,

I dont think being miserable is acceptable, since folks dont wanna be around that person.

I meant, "acceptable to them" due to thier natural disposition...

Human kind is addicted to pain , suffering, and misery.
They spread it like a virus through gossip, rumor, negativity, manipulation, closed mindedness, out right lies, not to mention religious and political belief systems.

Watch the news, observe people in public.
They thrive on it

its environment and nurturing, some people are just raised to be victims and some are raised to be conquerors, most of us fall in between in my opinion

I think its also about attention, there are some people who enjoy the way that misery makes them the center of attention or the ONLY one that counts (this is evident in our nature to one up each other with dreadful stories, to see who has the most dreadful or pitiful experience)

heh, are you saying this guy can make his stuff seem worse than yours, and makes you feel better that way? He's a high-power trump-your-misery type.

He's the kind of guy you say good morning too and his response would be whats so good about it? He's the kind of guy that could win a lottery jackpot for for 5 million and not be happy because they took 2 million in taxes. He's miserable and negative about everything ( A very strange person if you ask me )

Im a naturally happy person. I mean life throws you curve-balls, but you move past it. I do know peeps that are permanetly depressed or miserable...they are like an infection, they tend to spread. I tend to run away like my azz is on fire from peeps like that. ohwell
