Healthy Stress Managment or Just Complaining
A few times a day or maybe a few times a week, someone is going to say something to you or about you, that is going to make you want to unleash a verbal smack down on them. This may or may not help the situation. The
one thing that does is to talk about it or my personal favorite, the art of venting.

Venting is not only therapeutic when done correctly, it also helps you practice a solution and keep your sanity. Here are 3 steps you can follow to practice this technique.

Give Yourself A Time Limit

This really depends on the upset itself. If your mother-in-law makes a snide comment directed at you, you might only need 10 minutes. If your boss takes credit for your idea again, you may give yourself till the end of the week. However, you must give yourself a time limit and stick to it. If you go beyond your limit it's less about the situation at hand and more about a deeper issue for you.

Through Your Venting, Come Up With A Solution

Venting becomes complaining without a solution. What are you going to do about it and when? When coming up with a solution measure it with the 10-10-10 rule. How will this solution affect me in the next 10 minutes, 10 weeks and 10 months?

Here's an example. Let's look at the boss problem. Your boss keeps stealing your ideas and it happened again today. What are you going to do about it? How does this choice affect you in the next 10 minutes? Does it make you feel better or worse? If it makes you feel better, move to the next step. If not, start over. The 10 minute part of this strategy is your short-term guideline that has immediate results.

If your solution passes the 10 minute test, look ahead 10 weeks. Does your solution truly solve the problem? This is your mid-term solution. The 10 week part of this strategy encourages you to play out possible scenarios. Will this be an issue in 10 weeks? If not, you're done. Venting complete, problem solved. If it will be an issue, for example, you have a problem with your professor for the next 12 to 15 weeks, move on to the next step.

But the important thing is that something is flowing even if it is just blood. And you cared enough to have me put to sleep. You are such a nice person. I can tell that you care.

Oh, I just love primal scream therapy. The echo of the scream is like a mating call to me.

I was just venting with the manager at the grocery store. I couldn't find any summer sausage and she helped me find it. But then I wanted some egg nog to go with it. She said egg nog was out of season but summer sausage was just coming into season. It is winter. I asked her if she was trying to confuse me. She told me it wasn't her fault. What makes summer sausage so special but egg nog is treated like chopped liver?
