I recently visited Glacier National Park in Montana, Its the most beautiful place I have ever been to, The mountains are breath taking, and the wildlife is awsome...My sons and I had a close encounter with a 600 lb. grizzly bear on a narrow mountain trail. Has anyone else been to the park? I would love to visit again soon.

Yes, I agree. My sons and parents and I were there in june last year, guess we just missed yall. Being from Texas, the contrast of terrain and the altitude was overwhelming the first day or so. After that, me and my kids covered every trail we could handle... we were within sight of the granite shalet at the top of devils elbow, and had to turn around because the trail was blocked. we saw yellowstone on the way as well. I will be visiting again. perhaps even move a little more north some day.

Going to the Sun Road is absolutely exquisite! I also love that it's a shared peace park. Waterton Park AB is gorgeous as well! To stay in Whiefish MT and take daytrips was terrific!!!! (being a serious hiker but not necessarily backwoods backpacker/camper)

I also stayed in Whitefish...I didn't get to do any hiking as I hurt my knee on the way there ( will be getting a new knee in 3 wks) but I plan to go back and see more when I can walk. My brother lives in northern Idaho so its not far from him.. Once before when there I did a drive from Missoula north to Kalispell, west to Libby, Mt and then south to the area where my brother lives.. Absolutely beautiful country out there!!

I was there in July of 2007. It was hotter than the face of the sun, over 100 degrees. Totally worth the heat. The waterfalls there are magnificent. I spent over fifteen rolls of film at that place (didn't have a digital yet, still prefer the medium).
There were tons of billy goats at the top, they caused at least a half an hour stoppage of traffic on "Going to the Sun" as well. That's some pretty country, I'd love to go back again. Went swimming in the river on the west side (with a large group of kids) the water was "COLD!!" Although as hot as it was the day I was there, it totally felt great. Teton/Yellowstone is awesome as well, been there about five times. I absolutely love Crater Lake NP, I spent almost two weeks camping in the Huckleberry NF around it. Fresh berries the whole time I was there too!! Crater is one of the most beautiful places on earth if you've never been. I highly recommend waking up super early and watching the sunrise near "The Ghost Ship." When the morning fog is coming of the water, it literally looks like a pirate ship. Yosemite was closed when I tried to go there once in late November, at least when coming from the East gate. Still parked the truck and hiked in over the course of the day. It was cool to have an entire national park to myself! Utah has some of the best parks we've got. Arches is fantastic, I highly recommend a trip there in late November early December. There is no one in the park! All my pics from Arches have absolutely no one in them, just landscapes. There were only about six cars in the park the entire afternoon. Canyonlands is also right next to Arches, and it has some pretty big holes, definitely worth a look. Both are less than thirty minutes from Moab. Zion NP is also a treasure of Utah, I was there last year in early November. The trees were just changing so it was all reds and golds. Zion closes it's main road from April to October, too much traffic they bus you in, just so you know. Went hiking in The Great Smokey National Park the year before last. Take a rain slicker, it comes up in no time and that rain is ice cold (at least it was in September). There are several falls there as well. If you go to see Rainbow Falls, go early in the day as the "rainbow" doesn't appear after noon (or one during daylight savings time). You'll find almost nowhere to park in Gatlinburg, just in case you didn't know, so pack a picnic lunch. I've been to several others as well, so if you want some info, feel free to ask. These are just a few I could think of off the top of my head. |

dang i am jealous...you have been everywhere. I have been to arches np, it is really wierd. I can see why the outlaws of the old west hid out there. i thought all the caution for flood signs were a joke, it looks as though water has never been there...lol

I'm jealous too...lol although I have been to the Smokey Mts NP. Whenever you see flood signs out west, be very careful... the flash floods can be fatal if you don't know what you are doing...I was in Vegas once and they had a flash flood that came down the street along side Caesars Palace and there was 10 feet of water going thru the intersection...
