Many people each presidential election seems to find the time to vote. Many people see the president as the country's icon and believe he holds a lot of power. The power mostly resides in Congress since they are the ones passing laws. When it comes down to mid-term elections only a third of the people vote who voted in the presidential election. Why is this?

Because people are stupid and dont know how the system works.
They rely on TV ads to tell them what to do.

Couldn't tell you, I haven't missed an election since I turned eighteen. I've even used a couple of absentee ballots since I knew I wouldn't be home.

I think it all boils down to apathy.

GOOD QUESTION,, I personally make the time for the presidential election because I see the president as a GLOBAL representative rather than just a local one,,,,I vote in all elections I can, but to be honest, I am just not nearly as aware about local candidates at the end of the day(they all sound the same) as I am about presidential ones who are members of a much smaller selection and are scrutinized far more extensively and publicly

That's true and the mid-terms are very important this year because if republicans win the house then the dominant party will stop passing laws because demacrats already have the senate. I like it when the bills come to a hault. lol.

I hate bipartisan crap,, I really wish they would let individuals run just as THEMSELF and then their votes or actions could be THEIR responsibility instead of attached to a whole GROUP of people

Yeah. see, a true democracy is run by the people. People vote for everything and their are no seniors to look up to. We Have elected officials of whom we feel will put our problems into a long bill and most of the time it doesn't work out.

Your electoral college really renders the whole idea of "voting for the president" a moot issue,...the Gore/Bush elections made that pretty clear...the most popular candidate isnt necessarily the one that is going to get elected.
