Topic: Moldy carpet | |
---|---|
Since I moved into my room in June, I have been sleeping on my old foam mattress. It is a mattress I have slept on continuously in past residences without a problem. However, I finally got around to getting an actual mattress for the bed---which before lacked a mattress---and when I moved the foam, the rug underneath it had become moldy.
Dammit. My question is, does anyone out there know cheap, effective methods of removing mold from a rug? |

I know, I've been developing a nasty cough without apparent cause over the past few months, and I guess I know the culprit.
I have to go out to run errands tomorrow, so I hope this will have amassed enough replies by then. |

The carpet and padding have to be changed. When it is you need to vacuum the crap out of the floor and also it would not hurt to spray a mild bleach solution on the floor and let it dry before re-carpeting just in case. Mold is very fuqued up and once it is in carpet it is in and it also gets into the padding below. Sorry but carpet change is a must do in this circumstance.
You could try steam cleaning with biocide added to the solution used to steam the carpet. That MIGHT help but it is 50/50 if the cleaning takes it out permanently. |

Bleach sometimes works on the wood, but Andy's right carpet is pretty much toast

I would throw it out. Mold can be deadly. The girl in this article, Kyla, is the grand daughter of my step father. She literally died on the operating table, and was brought back. Bobby (her dad) sued the school and won. Here's the link.
http://healthandenergy.com/mold_in_schools.htm They actually went in to do a biopsy, but had to remove most of one lung. My advice is to get rid of it, and if you do not feel better soon, get to a doctor. |

Sorry the carpet is not going to just get moldy due to a mattress laying on it unless you have a leak or wetting the bed. Sounds to me as if the carpet has been wet prior to you moving in and the lack of air to the carpet it causing the mold to show through.............
Call the apartment mgr and show them they have to replace it you can rent a carpet cleaner and have it cleaned but that will not eliminate the mold only slow it down for a bit. |
