Andy, you do not have to attack another person's religious beliefs in order for you to say that you don't accept those beliefs.

Some people here conform their sexual behavior to a particular faith. Others do not.

Let's try not attacking each other's moral/religious beliefs while discussing what each of our sexual boundaries are.

I have tried it both ways. The waiting version worked better for me.

I don't think he was attacking.

However, he made a point. I don't know of any non-religious people who feel like they should wait and certainly don't have a dogma based on it. As long as everyone is safe and careful, why should one wait?

As has been so crudely stated before, you don't get a car without a test drive.

I think that waiting until you're married to have sex is a very unwise idea. Sexual compatibility is essential for a successful marriage. Why wait until after you're married to determine whether you should have married at all?

well that all depends upon whether sex is the reason for the marriage

there are many other and more important ingredients to a successful marriage/relationship, in my opinion, and when those things work the sexual chemistry is not hard to develop

I respectfully disagree.

I've had a few relationship were all other components were in place: communication, friendship, etc, but the sex sucked and wasn't getting any better.

You can be in love with someone and “think” you are having great sex because there are a lot of emotions involved.

I need the carnal urge to have wild jungle sex rather than just “married sex”. I need the lust!

I was with someone for 6 years and everytime was like the first time for us PLUS we had a good relationship. In contrast, I've had short, 2 year relationships wherein the friendship was awesome but there was never chemistry. That was like sawing my foot off for 2 years - and it was my fault for staying that long.

All that religious stuff is a lie.

The above statement was uncalled for. It is an attack on religious beliefs and distracts from the topic.

why I feel waiting is better is because I feel sex should involve a commitment and I know that sex can blind people to truly valuable things like emotional , intellectual, and spiritual/moral compatibility and I dont know if thats anymore an exclusively religious attitude than the attitude that men should be providers

from my experience, sexual compatibility is far more likely to develop from other types of compatibility than the other way around

sex is a small part of a relationship for me but my body is a major priority that I dont wish to share just for the fun of it but only after other things are in place that are potentially permanent,

that is why I feel it is best to wait for it

there are both cultural and religious elements to certain value systems

lol, to each their own

thats kind of why I dont get cheating,, there are people with all types of sexual values in the world

why dont those who wish to test the waters hook up with others who feel the same instead of so often hooking up with those they know are into fidelity,,,? (not asking you directly,,lol, just rhetorical)

I fully respect both sides. I don't want to wait to till I'm married to find out that he is a dead lay or we have no sexual chemistry though. That is a big part of a relationship for me. But I also don't sleep around just to satisfy an urge.

To each their own.

When I stated my position on the topic, I simply said what worked best for me. Perhaps that is all anyone needs to say. Say what works for you, and leave it it at that.

Everyone has their own relious beliefs. Even if they don't have any. Now I'n not defending anyone in this but I do believe that no matter what someone`s religious beliefs are they need to be respected. But David sometimes you over push your beliefs. Sometimes you just have to pick and choose which battles you want to fight. Not everything has to be a debate. JMO. I don`t want to offend anyone.

Chelsea, usually I don't mention religious beliefs unless I am on a forum pertaining to such things. A person can have non-religious reasons for being opposed to something.

When stating my position on this thread's topic, I made no mention of my own beliefs. I merely stated what worked for me. I did not belittle another person's position on the topic, which is what Andy did.

Respect for the beliefs of others should go both ways.
