In the case of somebody screwing around outside, I don't get scared, I get pissed and grab my bat. Boy I'm glad I'm realllllly quiet when I hang out in the tree outside her place! Did I mention that I'm reshaping it into a boomerang shape? I'm only up there cuz you have better cable channels than me! Well if you fall your butt outta the tree, then I'm gonna have to take you to the hospital, so you might as well come on in and plunk it on the couch...but no hogging the remote. I'm sure I would land on my head, which I couldn't possibly damage, but I will happily come share the couch, want me to bring the chips and salsa in too? May be a few leaves in it tho... And I definately say call the cops, you pay for em, may as well get your 10 min of time. |

I can suggest taking self-defense classes on your free time. It will help you a lot in feeling more confident when you're alone.
Hope everything is fine now! |

Whatever you do... Don't go outside with a flashlight and dead batteries... they're the ones who are ALWAYS the first to get it in horror movies

I can suggest taking self-defense classes on your free time. It will help you a lot in feeling more confident when you're alone. Hope everything is fine now! Everything is and was fine. I have been on my own for over 7 years now. I have had several defense classes and one on safe gun handling. ( It stinks that the ex got my 357 in the divorce.) I can handle most everything, yet that loud noise in the middle of the night can get a gal's heart racing and not stop. I must say that the couple shots, one of tequila (that was all that was in that bottle) and 2 Captain Morgans helped that issue. Thanks to everyone that chatted with me till my ticker quit pounding. |

I call someone. or text someone. so in case I am murdered, someone knows to call nine one one. I called my son, he is a police officer. Guess what he told me? Yep, call the township police. I just can't get my heart to stop racing. And the cops can't fix that. do you like dogs? If so get one, seriously they hear what we don't.. Sometimes they bark at nothing but if something is wrong they'll let you know.... Cats can too. Snorts, cats are really good at poofing up like they've been scared and staring at nothing. I'll take the dogs, thanks! Though mine have been known to go off randomly when you aren't paying attention either. Scares ya right outta your skin! Ouch! |

justme I am glad that everything is fine now for you.
Calling the police is your best option when you don't feel safe at home and your all alone. Your very lucky your son is a police officer. |

I curl up in my bed, throw the blankets over my head and find a way to go to sleep (usually this has been applied to major storms only as I haven't had any other reason to be scared)

i got those once.took forever to get rid of'em. stay away from the hookers in Mexico that will take a bottle of tequila as payment.i know i sure learned my lesson..... Thanks JT for reminding me that I have tequila in the house. I bet a shot of that will calm my jitters. Not what you had in mind I know. And thanks to everyone for the conversation. That alone has helped tremendously. And yes, I called the local police for a drive by. hey if drinking it doesn't help, you can always crack'em over the head with the bottle |

I just got the bean dip scared out of me. I was watching the idiot box and there was a loud noise at my window. Sounded like a ladder hitting my metal sill outside. I got up and looked but there was nothing and no one out there. And yes, every light in and outside of the house is lit. Now I know in one part of my brain that all the windows are locked ( I just checked ) and I am safe. But being alone, the other part of my brain is in full flight mode. I hate that feeling. What do you do when you are alone and frightned? I rationalize .... and sometimes put on heavy rock music. as for your noise ... I live in the country with lots of windows ... its common for bird to hit my window and wow ... does it make a big bang. another is a temperature change that causes expansion or contraction of the structure and that can make a big bang. or just something being blown down or over. or knowcked over by a racoon etc. there is always a rational reason ... just not always easy to seen. |

I get a kick when the 'coons and opossums come up on the deck and scrabble around. One should be aware in daylight what is surrounding the house. Makes it easier to rationalize everything out. And check it regularly so you keep yourself safe and don't let the fear take over. I know within a day, especially a windy day, if I need to get out and trim tree branches back because of scratching on the roof or wall. Stops the scratchy sound and keeps the house safe. |
