I just got the bean dip scared out of me. I was watching the idiot box and there was a loud noise at my window. Sounded like a ladder hitting my metal sill outside. I got up and looked but there was nothing and no one out there. And yes, every light in and outside of the house is lit.

Now I know in one part of my brain that all the windows are locked ( I just checked ) and I am safe. But being alone, the other part of my brain is in full flight mode. I hate that feeling.

What do you do when you are alone and frightned?

I've never been frightened for long.. If I check the doors and windows and all is locked I usually feel safe BUT I also have a 75# dog that I know would eat anyone that tried to break in..

Keep the phone close that may help... flowerforyou

I call someone.
or text someone.
so in case I am murdered,
someone knows to call nine one one.

In the case of somebody screwing around outside, I don't get
scared, I get pissed and grab my bat.

I called my son, he is a police officer. Guess what he told me? Yep, call the township police.

I just can't get my heart to stop racing. And the cops can't fix that.

Like I said, I don't get scared, per se, but my adrenalin does
start pumping, and I also start checking doors and windows just
to make sure, turn down tv/radio, and listen closely for anything
else.

My sister usually calls me, then the police, and then tries to convince herself it's a raccoon, opossum, or some other animal that scared her.

If you feel fearful though, ask the police to do a drive-by and check on your place.

I have lived alone so long that there is not much that scares me...... Just make sure all the doors and windows are locked. Turn on all the lights inside and out if there is anyone out there they will leave most will not attempt to break into a well lite house.

Most likely it was something that could have fell like a gutter ect..... or a cat or possibly someone drove by and thrown something.

If you hear anything else then call your son again or the police.... they will drive by and check it out for you. Better to be safe then sorry..............whoa

call the non emergency police line to do a drive by. better safe than sorry. your son can tell you that they would rather do a drive by and find nothing than have a crime scene.

Thanks JT for reminding me that I have tequila in the house. I bet a shot of that will calm my jitters. Not what you had in mind I know. laugh

And thanks to everyone for the conversation. That alone has helped tremendously.

And yes, I called the local police for a drive by.
