She overstayed her visa, she is not here legallt, and has not been for at least six years. The benefits are not hers, she is not here legally.

Onyango, who turns 58 this month, is the half-sister of Obama's late father, and she was featured in Obama's memoir, "Dreams from My Father." She had applied for political asylum in 2002, but a judge rejected her application in 2004 and told her to leave the country.

Instead, she lived quietly in the public housing project until it was revealed shortly before the 2008 election that she was here illegally. She quickly became a lightning rod in the national debate over illegal immigration.

After the publicity, she fled to Cleveland, hired Wong, and petitioned immigration judge to allow her to stay in the United States.

Shapiro agreed to reopen Onyango's case in December 2008.

In February, Wong said Onyango would testify that she should stay in this country because she suffers health problems and because she feared that she would become the target of tribal violence if she were forced to return to her homeland. Onyango suffers from Guillain-Barre syndrome, an autoimmune disorder.

During that hearing, Shapiro heard five hours of testimony by Onyango and two physicians.

As of 2008 Onyango worked as a volunteer computer systems co-ordinator for the Experience Corps, a program in which adults over 55 mentor children in their communities.[1] McGonagle added "We have no affirmative responsibility I am aware of to further check on their status after they are initially deemed to be eligible."[22]

Onyango's immigration lawyer since 2008, Margaret Wong, stated Onyango could be barred from reentering for up to ten years if she left the US now.[23] Wong stated that Onyango needed to stay for medical care because she could not walk.[23]

Exactly. People want to defend the thousands of people receiving social security that have never paid in. Then they wonder why social security is broke. She paid in nothing, just as countless others, but we are to believe they are somehow entitled? Hope they feel that way when they pay in all their life, but receive nothing, because it is all gone.

None of that proves she didn't work.

And the social security system is set up so that it helps people. That is what it is suppose to do and that is what it does.

The only reason the social security system has any problems at all is because the government borrows from it.

There is also no proof she ever has. It does prove she is not currently. Social security was set up for "workers" and was later expanded to cover their families. Look it up. Why is it now paying people who have never worked? That's a different program... welfare.

It is broke because payments are going to those who have not paid in. Just imagine if you ran your finances that way, no income, but keep writing checks anyway.

There is no proof that she hasn't worked and because of her applying for asylum, she is protected by the DHS. So it may never come out.

Shapiro granted Zeituni Onyango her lawyers Margaret Wong and Scott Bratton and her two doctors an extended hearing which lasted five hours. At the end Shapiro granted her legal residency and permission to work in the United States. She has Guillain Barre Syndrome which requires plasmapheresis which is extremely difficult to get in Kenya.
