I have seen theater trailers of his film " Sicko" and it opens in two
days and will blow the lid off of "health care in the United States."

Health Care in the United States sucks. The insurance companies and the
drug companies are way out of hand, in making too much money and the
drug companies use free meals and incentives, for the drug companies to
push thier drugs.

I live on Social Security and Medicare and it sucks big time. Medicare
is like a watch dog.

Other members in other countries,"how does Health Care compare to the
United States?

it was bootlegged on youtube last week for a day & I got to watch it....
it is worth the viewing...much of the film is an examination of the
health care in england, canada, and france...the system in france
was something...

Making too much money? So should private healthcare/insurance companies
be in business for some other reason? The quality of care in the US far
surpasses that of the socialized Western European countries. Reason
being, profit provides incentive for new drug and healthcare development
and research. Plain and simple. Social Security and Medicare were not
designed to be the primary source of retirement/healthcare benefits for
retirees.

I dun like anything micheal moore puts out, he makes people look like
idiots (tho there are some who deserve it) but anyone unlucky enough to
be on the camera with him ends up being ridiculed.

in my country it sucks
the doctors go on strike because they haven't being paid in like 6
months in a row
they don't even have needles, etc
Obviously I'm talking of public health
Therefore, I guess guys you should feel blessed of having the healthcare
system you have.
Other countries don't even have money for bandaids

Note...I said that Social Security was not designed to be a "primary"
source of retirement. By promoting the sense of entitlement that runs
rampant throughout those on the left, SS has spiraled out of control.
Don't be naive enough to think this problem was created by the current
adminstration (not to say that it has been able to do anything about
it). Until we cut benefits dramtacially and further promote individual
and/or private retirement planning, the problem will not go away. I
personally am not counting on SS to fund my retirement.

don't turn this into "left" versus "right." people on every side are a
bunch of greedy mother****ers, and the real problem with our government
is that people are obsessed with "liberal" or "conservative"
affiliations. with politicians who are too concerned with whose ass
they're kissing, they all forget that once they wipe the **** off their
faces, they aren't any closer to solving any problems, because they're
effectively destroyed any headway they made by causing new problems.
here's a ****ing novel idea; stop blaming each other and arguing about
who is right, and realize that ultimately it doesn't matter who is right
-- just fix the ****ing problem.

Partisanship can really rob people of their thinking ability.

Can't disagree with the concept...but so many non-partisans just throw
out their left vs right blasts but then offer no solutions to the
problem. That said, I respect everyone's opinion and am open to new
ideas.

one solution would be to integrate our educational system, and focus
more on life skills. reading the classics and learning to graph a
quadratic equation are all fine and dandy, but our educational system
teaches these skills merely for the sake of teaching them, and they are
presented as separate subjects. all of life and all of knowledge is
interconnected, and the more widely information is distributed, the more
that is obvious. as for life skills, i'm not entirely sure how valuable
calculating projectile trajectory is when millions of college students
can't balance a check book, manage credit card debt, or have the
forethought to open an IRA at an early age. let's start with education
reform. then, let's require gainfully employed persons to open an IRA.
Perhaps social security checks should then be deposited in said IRA.
what's important is that we put partisan politics behind us, and find
solutions that are based on the problem at hand instead of on some
ass-clown's feelings about abortion.

another possible solution:
as far as emlpoyment goes, make it so that a resteraunt (normal
resteraunt folks not no four star quissine lol) can not require an
applicant for a DISHWASHER to have FIVE YEARS ECPERIENCE AND AN
ASSOCIATES DEGREE. This was a real requirement at a buffet style
resteraunt last summer/fall in michigan. Posted right on the parking
lot billboard. "dishwasher position available. Must have five years
experience and an associates degree to qualify".
Now how F'ckin ridiculous is THAT?!

MoreBass, I absolutely agree with you that we would benefit from
including life skills in our education. the only life skill course i
had in high school was 'health', and I would say emphatically that i am
a healthier person as a result of what i learned, and applied to my
life.

MB,on the other hand, don't underestimate the value of learning things
which have no immediate practical application - they can be vehicles for
teaching thinking skills, general problem solving skills... to -really-
understand the projectile motion equation, you have to understand
derivatives, and if you understand that, you are better equipped to
understand, say, a graph of the dow during different periods of time,
or employment curves - things which can actually matter when it comes
time to have discussions of policy decisions, or when someone goes to
cast their vote.
