Have you taken the time today to remember?

Today is an important day in the US – one that we should never forget. The attacks on 9/11 reshaped the American life. We are rebuilding the Ground Zero area, making it in to a memorial. The September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks are a day to remember, and a day that not one American should forget.

To those that have taken the time to remember this day..... Do you remember what you were doing at the time it was announced that the twin towers had been hit.

This is not a debate of who did it or why they did it only to take the time to remember a tragic time that was etched within our minds.....................................

Yep, long enough to shake my head at the media and governmental fearmongering going on.

I do. I was in my living room watching the "Today Show" and watched it all unfold. It never gets any easier, no matter how much time goes by.

We (NYC) cannot forget the 9/11 attack. It's in our "back yard". My bus drives through Ground Zero every day. It is a constant reminder of the horrific incident and the souls that are hopefully RIP.

On the day of 9/11 (a Tuesday), I was driving to the vet with one of my dogs. I was listening to a NY Spanish radio station and one of the MCs made a comment about a plane flying towards Tower 1. Since this radio station is known for playing pranks on their listeners and such...I thought it was a very morbid joke!

I called my Mom (who was still residing in NY - I wasn't at the time) to b*tch about their morbid sense of humor. When my Mom picked up the phone I could hear the news BLARING from her TV. That's when I realized it was not a joke. :-(

Fortunately, my Mother who worked at one of the Towers was not a victim, but she lost co-workers and friends on 9/11.

We experience many sad thoughts and emotions when 9/11 is approaching us. I just pray that GOD gives the surviving families/friends of the victims much comfort/peace/strength to live without their physical presence.............

That's one day I'll never forget. It leaves me cold just thinking about it.

It's a long story...but 9/11 and the Space Shuttle Challenger events were in the background and quite secondary to what was going on in my life at the time.

It's like:

"Oh my God..Did you see that?

"No, I blinked and missed it"

It has been only later long after the events that some understanding of what happened has come about.

i was visiting some family and had slept right in...anyways i woke up and boom they were telling me about what had happened. ic ouldnt believe it and at first thought they were joking....till i saw the news coverage and even then the full measure of what had happened didnt hit me until much later.

now ...i don't understand it...im not sure it ever will be understood and maybe this is an old old question....why?

i have respect for those that wer ethere and helped and did what they could to help others...and my heart goes out to those who had experienced any loss because of what happened.

hats off

its the one serious day in history i remember, like my mother remembers d-day or JFK dying, 9-11 is the BIG ONE for me. My first born was only 3 months old and I was up with him, at 3am, which is why is I saw it happening live on the news. I thought it was a movie and then saw the second plane coming in. FREAKED OUT>

Wild that you mentioned JFK being assassinated for I remember that day as if it was only a short time ago. I even remember the house we lived in and the floor plan for it.....And I was only 5 years old at the time. Yeah showing my age for sure... But some events like when the Shuttle blew up will forever be etched within our minds...

Even though we will never really know why those events really happen or some of the reasons behind them. They will be days within our memories that will stay fresh no matter how old we get....

Only time heals wounds but nothing can totally take the confusion and hurt completely away....

agreed. my son is 9 now and it feels like yesterday watching it all go down on tv and the buildings collapsing, there was a really good movie- adam sandler did, it was about a family who had been affected by the 911 tragedy. it was not a comedy. obviously but u hear his name and think that. It's called Reign Over Me, it's soooo goood!. rent it.
