Topic: U.S. Soldier, Citing His Muslim Religion, Seeks Conscientiou | |

it would make no sense to have an option that was going to cause someone a PENALTY for taking,, CO is a legitimate option offered by the military, it shouldnt be used to incriminate this person in any way so long as he follows the proper procedures,,,
CO is an option created for conscription. We don't draft anymore. Was this boy drafted? I don't think so.... Anyway,, once you take the oath there is only one option. (you can't just join for the benefits and then quit because they expect you to do your job.) Accept responsibility for your words and actions. That's what mothers should be teaching their young-ins. |

Mommas don't raise your babies to be stupid. The US Military is to protect our country and citizens from extreme threat. That might mean death. It is not possible to misinterpret this possible sacrifice. it is not possible? bold statement that one,,,,,, makes me wonder if you have any kids,,lol as a parent, I can tell you, that many kids(and I use that loosely because I dont think age automatically determines maturity)in college, or freshly from high school, have EXTREME tunnelvision about what is reality. Many have been protected and overly shelthered and are extremely naive and gullible about how things work. THey have been on this earth two decades or less and whatever limited exposure they were permitted during that time becomes the extent of the reality they know. It is extremely possible for a teenager to go through changes of heart on any number of things(Check out the numbers on how often freshman change majors). It is hardly difficult to believe that a teen might feel one way about a situation until they are inside of it and then have a change of heart. The REALITY of it is what is the alarm. I am glad there is the CO process for the times when that happens instead of punishing young people for still being naive. |

We are talking about common sense not maturity.
My children possessed that naturally by the time they could walk. It's common sense that army men die! Changes of heart? Decisions have consequences. My children realized that the first time they were disciplined for making a bad one. You accept responsibility and don't make excuses. The military makes men and women out of spoiled young ins. They have for years. It is not their job to coddle them like their mommies do. This seems to be becoming a harder and harder task for our military. It does not bode well for the life style our citizens have become accustomed to. It takes sacrifice and hard ships to keep this country safe. |

Thousands of other Muslim soldiers and you don't see them bitching. Hell he probably supports AQ and the Taliban and doesn't wanna hurt his brother's. Worthless piece of garbage. This is the kinda of a$$hole that give our troops a bad name. Hmmm...I wonder if you would be so bigoted about Christian or Jewish CO's (they exist and have for many generations). You ought to be more concerned about the soldiers who murder and torture if you are so concerned about the troops. |

Discipline is key here.
Discipline must be maintained. You can't maintain discipline, esp in a combat environment, with kindness and coddling. Most soldiers don't murder and torture. |

I don't care what his religion is. That has no bearing on my statements.
