I should get a waffle iron...that would
be fun to try and make waffles.
Then Soufie will come visit me.

My grandmother always kept a big sealed
pitcher of waffle mix pre-mixed in the
refrigerator.
When I showed up, I would smell the heating
of the waffle-maker. As I entered her kitchen
I would hear the sizzle of the batter hitting
the hot grid.
We would stand there together, watching it
rise and cook.
Then she would slide it out on a plate just
for me, always the first one.
With reverence she would add a pat of butter.
Then she would get out 10 choices of toppings,
and help me select one.
Eating was the least of it.
The smell memory, and my grandmother, come
back to me.

The senses remember.
So, yeah, I would get one Ruthie :-)

Still, as a child... that rubbery taste
that you get from the hose seemed neat.

mebbe that's just me.
