It's a vile word in any usage but it is also a mixed signal to those around it. Why can others say it freely yet someone else cannot with out being called a racist? It is a shame that in 2010 we as Americans are still arguing about this.

Also dragoness I have yet to see a white man have power over a black man, therefore I find myself annoyed at that stereotype.

its not confusing for those who wish to understand, its really just an old complaint to justify its hateful use because some black people turned it around within their OWN circles to mean something different

but if something OFFENDS someone , its subjective to their experience and its no big deal not to refer to someone in a way which offends,,,so there really is much more debate on both sides of the issue than there needs to be

If Bob calls his uncle a crazy sob,, it doesnt mean his uncle will feel the same way about ME calling him that and all I need to know is that it offends bobs uncle and Im not gonna go whining and crying about it, im just not gonna use that term in regards to him anymore and Im not gonna excuse my repeated use by telling him to 'get over it'

blacks in this country have been referred to by that word for centuries in a demeaning way by white people , so its not confusing at all why its still seen as demeaning in that context,,,people just wish to be silly about it and try to excuse it by talking about what others do

well, actually, white men wrote the constitution that all races in this country are bound to

white men are the majority of ceos and positions of authority over all races in this country too

I mean, if we had to pick ONE group which is most abundantly represented in political and financial status of this country it is white males,,

I personally think it is more accurate to state that MOST americans are racist at some level than to just single out whites,,, but thats my opinion

in such a racially founded system, the imagery and laws are bound to cause a culture that is racially founded as well, and the stereotypes that come with it,,

That's what annoys me. It feels that in order to be a real white person that I have to be rich and powerful. But I'm not. I'm just a little fat janitor who has had to fight tooth and nail to get this far in life. I refuse to be typecast.

I feel race relations is sliding backwards everyday for all colors.

I have met a few white folks who are truly unprejudice, the rest either falsely claim to be and are racist or they are ignorant of what they do that is racist. Outside of the blatant racist of course.

As for someone using the N word to "teach" a black person something as in the OP, that just ain't right regardless of intention.

Calling a black person the N word only reminds them that white racism is still bountiful in this great country.

I agree, its annoying for any of us to be stereotyped for any reason as individuals

but I dont think it can get better until we are honest about where it is coming from and how to change it,,,the culture, the media, the educational system,,,etc,,,,

I have had my eyes opened to the prejudice and discrimination.

I have been with a group of black folks and had the police id and harass all the black folks but not me. I have been in a store with my best friend who is of the brown persuasion, she calls herself black, and had the under cover store security follow her instead of me. I have heard white folks say all kinds of terrible things about all races outside of white. I have even been around racists who believe this country belongs to whites and all others should be killed.

I also watch political leaders further racist ideals in a guise of "conservatism".

I know if I was a black person in this country, I would be one pissed *****.

Because being white and having seen what I have pisses me the **** off really bad.

The ones you've encountered are the idiot people. I am not one of them nor will I ever I be. I admit to being naive about social issues because I'm a nerd and care more about Warcraft and kittens.

I'm tired of having to prove myself to others. Being white has never been a privilege that you and others claim it to be.

Being born white, how would you know the privileges of being white?

You can't unless you open your eyes and mind to experience life from a non white persons perspective.

Most white folks are unable to see the other side that is why the ignorant words and actions still happen.

its all perspective, perhaps being white is a privilege or perhaps being black is a disadvantage,,,but there is certainly a 'group' mentality which leaves minorities in just about all situations(barring apartheid) at a disadvantage
