I had a friend once for a couple of years... she was gorgeous and sexy and tall and very-very rich. (By my standards.)
On our first what I thought was going to be a date, she said "Albrecht, (not my real name), I would love to be friends with you, but only if you promise and can handle that we'll never even touch each other." I said fine. Just remember your own words. About a year into the friendship (weekly meetings, several phone calls and emails a week, not subsiding in intensity -- we lived in each other's pockets), she would make some flirting remark or touching, after her daily dose of alcohol, which was not much, I admit, only one or two glasses of wine. I never reacted to them. She held back with those after the first wave, but then the flirts and come-ons continued, with a higher intensity and frequency. I said to myself, without speaking, that baby, you are an idiot. You see, she was honest and stuff, but I was not sure whether 1. it was the alcohol that made her like me, 2. she really wanted me, or 3. she never meant it beyond some flirt or touching, and I was not going to debase myself to that tactic if I weren't assurred that some real nookie was to follow. From where we came from as far as the relationship is concerned, it was absolutely impossible to tell which of the three was the real one. I could only ask, but that I did not. Due to my pride? Due to scaring her away? Because I enjoyed the come-ons secretly. Due to the fear of being turned down bluntly and brutally? I don't know. Then towards the second anniversary date of our friendship, she disappeared. Completely. |

It's usually the other way around for me...guys I have dated usually get demoted to "just friends" or I stay in the "friend zone" altogether because the feelings are not reciprocated(sp?)

Has anyone else out there experienced the feeling that you are falling in love with your best friend of the opposite sex? What do you do? There was this moment a long time ago I thought I felt something for her, but I quickly smacked that goofy idea right out of my head. |

All good relationships start as friendships. If your friendship is strong even if the relationship doesn't last you may be able to remain friends. I say go for it. You only live once. Yes, they do. My ex and I started as friends first and then it grew, one day he just kissed me. We were together for 18 years (the last 3 dating after the D) and we are still today, very good friends. It can happen and it was all so very worth it, best memories (and some hard ones) in my life. Things happened, and slowly we grew apart, I got cancer at the wronng time for us, and it was the clincher. he has since apologized many times and I forgave him long before he did. We're only human. Go for it, I don't think you'll regret it. If it doesn't work out, if you truly are friends, things will go back to friends. It's like having a arguement with a lt best friend, you forgive, forget and move on- . Best of luck , truly! |
