Charles Sherrod: “Finally We Must Stop the White Man & His Uncle Toms From Stealing Our Elections” (Video)
Posted by Jim Hoft on Monday, July 26, 2010, 9:10 AM If you thought the hateful speech by race-healer Shirley Sherrod was bad wait until you hear this… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrcJ3cBDS7Y&feature=player_embedded Dan Riehl posted this video of Charles Sherrod, husband of Shirley Sherrod, railing against the white man and “Uncle Toms”. So will the state-run media dare play this after canonizing Saint Shirley this past week? Don’t count on it. |

Uncle Tom is a black man acting white around white people. uncle tom is kind of like a racial conservative,,,those who want to do the biddings of the oppressive government, or in this case, race,,, whats new,, different groups have their lables, Just as I am not cool with the constant liberal/conservative bashing,, I dont agree with the uncle tom name calling either,, but I dont see any of it as better or worse than the other,,, btw,, here is the full CONTEXT of what was actually spoken about in that address http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=charles+sherrod&aq=f&aqi=g6&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=C1BzenCNPTODBKomgjQPXy9mMDwAAAKoEBU_QLmlG |

so what do they call a white guy that acts black? uncle m&m? uncle whigger? oops sorry, i ment wigroe... I think the term was/is wigger,,, another stupid label,, people act in the manner in which they were raised and the environment they were raised in,,, not according to race but some people will always cling to their stereotypes |

Uncle Tom is a term for a black person who behaves in a subservient manner to white. The term comes from the title character of Harriet Beecher Stowe's 1852 novel Uncle Tom's Cabin. Critical and popular views of both the character and the novel have shifted over time, leading to the shift in the term's use. In the novel the Uncle Tom character is feeble, servile, and a race traitor. The critical distaste for the character's subservience contributed to the strongly negative connotations of the name in modern popular use. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncle_tom#Minstrel_stock_character |

His definition is pretty right on.
That's coming from a Southern raised white boy. |

For those interested, the term "Uncle Tom" comes from the famous 19th century story Uncle Tom's Cabin. I read it as a youngin, and it's worth checking out if you get a chance.

Wasn't too long ago there was reference made about Powell lookin' like an Uncle Tom to keep his standing.
The definition is the same as it's always been. A black who caters to and is a yes man to majority white special interests. Be it for the money or power. And, this punk preacher is sounding a lot like ole' Rev. Wright. Do most black preachers preach hate whitey still? |

Regardless where or how the label started or originated from. It is in fact also considered a member of a low-status group who is overly subservient to or cooperative with authority regardless of color.
Therefore it can be taken in different ways and does not always refer to black men. The term is being used as it is referred to within this day and time not what it was in the 1800's. Not all terms keep the same meaning as the years go on... |

A black who caters to and is a yes man to majority white special interests. Be it for the money or power. And, this punk preacher is sounding a lot like ole' Rev. Wright. Do most black preachers preach hate whitey still? no, but many preachers preach hate the jews, and many preach hate the poor, and many preach hate the sinner,,,individual style is as different as the individual baptist churches I have attended have had a tendency to use realistic and current examples and apply them to biblical scripture many think church should be all life is great and people are wonderful,,but that hasnt been my experience of the world nor has it been what my churches have taught,,, these threads seemed overwhelmingly to validate the opinions of Chuck Norris because of the 'facts' he included,, seems this person gave just as many 'facts' and should possibly be considered just as valid for the sake of consistency I have heard women say they would rather be alone because their experience has made them a big jaded towards men in general, I see this mans circumstance as not much different,, whats amazing is that its not MORE hateful,, that he wouldnt condemn martin luther kings dream instead of referring to its inspiration, considering the life he has experienced,,, does he generalize,, oh yeah, should any of us use that example in our logic,, no,,but I have seen these types of generalizations and worse used throughout these threads and in the media,,,so we should be careful to take the thorn out of our own eye before condemning others for being blind,,, how would YOU feel? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m22eXuYNbkY |
