I killed a baby squirrel once, because it had been bitten in half by a

something a little more meaningful, for example... would you defend the
beaten, the broken, and the damned from unjust punishment?

If somebody got bitten by a vampire, werewolf or Zombie, I would kill
them before they changed.

My kids, of course. What little family I do have, and my one true best
friend. Beyond that, I'm really not so sure.

Are you talking only about people? Because 'killing' does not only
apply when the victim is human... nor does 'beaten', 'broken', nor
'unjust punishment' only apply to humans.

At the moment, I can think of nothing for which I would consciously,
pre-meditatively murder another human being... for every scenario I can
think of that involves pre-meditation, there is also a better route than
murder.

Non-premeditated circumstances are different.

Another human, another life form, yes, even a dog, or a turtle, or
something that is at risk, and is suffering.

Whether that is rational or not, I know it is what I have done, and it
does come down to the individual set of circumstances, and the risks
involved, although sometimes, one acts instinctually, without assessing
the risk to self first.
