After reading this, I'm perplexed. You need money, but you're online (ISP) fees, have a computer (initial investment of at least $300 and then there's electricity). And most likely you have a roof over your head. Sorry, sounds "scamish" to me.

really, heck , after paying my rent, and my 35 dollar a month internet fee, I still need money too,,,things like food, fuel for the car, clothes, school supplies for my kids, etc,,,,, my computer was purchased while I was still at my last job

its not so perplexing really

Guess, I just don't get it. Seems to me that if you cut the Internet and the computer it would be better than begging. That's just my opinion though.

it would be cutting off the arm to save the finger,, the computer is gonna getcha 300 bucks and then you are still left with no money AND no computer to use for school or work,,,,sometimes we have to ask for help because we need help and sometimes that involves money

no shame in it so long as you are still TRYING to help yourself in the meantime,,,,

paying it forward, let me explain, there are months where after I budget I may have an extra hundred,,, and while driving someone might approach my car in need, so I give them knowing it could easily be me

other months I may still be in NEED of a hundred after budgeting because of some unforseen circumstance

my financial status hasnt changed but even if I have very little I can sometimes afford to help someone else with less,,,

I lost my job 20 mos ago now. I have 2 out of my 5 children still to support. I would flip burgers @ McDee's before I begged on a corner. I am doing acct exec work for my SIL while applying for my opportunities in my field of expertise.

I cut my budget to the bone. We have no frills. My budget is now titled the "CRISIS" budget.

Yet, right here in my local suburbia, there is a guy with a cardboard sign by the store. huh

"Lost Job. Wife and 5 kids .. please give"...

EXCUSE ME?????spock spock spock GIVE WHAT ????? smokin I support lots of organizations and feed the poor even when I'm out of work. But I don't beg to feed my own. And won't give for someone else to ride the 'recession train' in my absence. grumble

If you are "able" enough to stand on the corner, ya ..... nuf said whoa smokin

Sounds like the whole paying it forward concept ...

People tithing to a cause they found worthy of charity, w/ potential ...

Anyone that has ever begged a bank to back a biz concept is doing same, though I realize such begging is backed w/ a 'we own ya if ya fail' back-up clause ...

Folks have found a great place to share out, many have more than enough and need to ...

Up to each of us to call our 'Cause' ...

And - give in the way we see fit, I'm a big fan of volunteerism ... I give my time constantly, as I see fit!

Street beggars make me ill, esp. when most (I've talked to MANY!) have a home, consider it their job, and make some of the highest wages I've ever heard of ... grumble

explode ... One guy I knew made $400 to $800 daily, and incorporated his girlfriend's 4 yr old to do so!!!

not really, because people arent HANDING out jobs,, its a misnomer that jobs are out there for the taking , it just isnt true,,,

like I said, I dont look down on 'beggars' because of some ASSUMPTION that they must be lazy,, this country values 'work' by weird standards

there are people working in their homes and with their families , raising productive children who dont get paid a dime but need money for certain things while others make a pile of dough to sit on their behind in an office,,,but we feel because the officeworker has a 'job' their work is more valuable and their money more deserving,,,,

I dont share these values,,,I dont assume to know how hard anyone else works in their life but I know we all have certain needs and we dont all always have the resources to supply them,,,

I once tried to street mission w/ sandwiches and juice in London ...

I only lasted a couple of weeks ...

The drunks would growl and attack; I repetitively heard:

"I don't want food, I want money to drink!"

Put me right off attempting to help thereafter ... noway

I've interviewed soooooooo many; the majority are housed and on the system, in addition to their street career ...

grumble ... They make big BANK!!!

I have also spoken to many salespeople, some make big bank and some work hard and still earn very little,,,,

I wont stop giving because of the tendency of some to take advantage,,,,

Anyone ever do it, or give to those doing it? What's your take on it?

I just posted to Begslist, if it works out, I plan to repay anyone who makes a donation to me, and once things get better for me, I will be giving to others there as well.

I also plan on giving personal loans at Propser and LendClub to help others in need.

the site seems well laid out,, there was one spotlighted on the Extreme Makeover program called wishuponahero.com,,,,it has similar goals but the layout is a bit different,,,,and the contributions range from money to time to presents,,,,etc,,,,

:) I have been there, still climbing out of it myself

I just think there is a bigger picture than what western culture values as 'deserving' or 'work'

I am still working to make a better life, attending school and applying to jobs EVERYDAY,,but in the meantime I still need help with bills that arent gonna wait until my life improves

even when one gets a job,, their stomach isnt gonna wait the two to three weeks for their first paycheck or the six to eight weeks to be processed through assistance,,, its a day by day thing, and it does seem like many dont get that part,,, or think people can just get a job and tend to their needs the same day,,
