first and foremost, i am not on a pedestal, and i am not putting anyone down.. shew.. now that that is out of the way i can post whats on my mind.. what i am wanting to know is... where do we get our since of whats right and wrong.. and what we will allow and what we wont.. i know some comes from family, some comes from life.. but i have seen straight laced parents bring up a hellion of a child, and i have seen 2 hellions bring up a very straight laced child.. i mean, i know we usually rebell against our parents.. but no everyone does.. my ideas on life differ from my parents, and i am raising my daughter differently than i was raised. so what i want to know.. is where do we get these ideas that our way is the right way.. and how do we assess the difference.

You don't need to start off all your posts this way... my pedestal comment was never directed toward you specifically.

oh i know.. was just trying to avoid it altogether, i am not out to coz confusion, really just trying to get things off my mind and seeing what others have to input on it..

We're all products of our environment. Unfortunately (and fortunately in some cases) our family is not our only source of influence. I have an AMAZING female influence in my mother yet I also learned by watching her relationships what kind of guys I DON'T want to be with. It's imperative that we learn as children that there are consequences to our actions. Kids with parents who think they are doing the right thing by helping them through everything in life are actually damaging them for real life.

i couldnt agree more.. i am raising my girl up better than i was raised, just by pure avoidance of what i saw and went thru growing up, i am sure she will think she had a crappy childhood.. (as most ppl do when they look back on it) but i will know it wasnt near as bad as mine.. and i figure if making her do chores, and eat all her dinner is the worst thing she remembers.. then i am doin ok

We each choose what's right and wrong for us..it's all individual and much of it is our own perspective

I am going to have to say ... compassion and empathy are what give us our sense of right and wrong.

teachings guide us but until we actually feel compassion and empathy for others we tend to only react to danger of trial and error in the basic action reaction of the world.

Yes the base of the brain in the back by the neck helps us react. the front lobe of the brain is where we get compassion and empathy from. Brain excercise it good. Put a stop to reacting first give time for the compassion and empathy to kick in after a while you are more compassionate. CBT check into it

All of those really work together something fierce when you are tripping on hallucinogens.

I personally feel we have an inner sense of right and wrong as human beings,,,that is based largely in a possible instinct to make sure the species survives and not just the individual..

but ,because we are individuals, our environment influences how we manipulate or rationalize those inner feelings ,,,,,

in my environment, I am mostly influenced by positive examples, if I have been 'taught' something and can see that thing in action and the result of it,,,I can be swayed one way or the other

my grandmother raised my mother in a way that worked well for her and she raised me the same way and I will raise my daughter the same way,,,,my environment and my experiences have given me no reason to do otherwise and those teachings seem to be reasonable and considerate of human beings in general so they seem 'right'
