I've recently decided that soon I will be stepping into the smart phone world. Tmobile is the service provider that I have. The Blackberry Bold 9700 is one of Cnet's top 5 phones yet I've been doing some research & I've found a fair amount of complaints about Blackberrys , as I don't know anything about smart phones I was curious what others thought about this phone.

I think it's a great phone but I am also an avid blackberry user. What kind of complaints did you read? I can maybe clear up some of the issues they were referring to.

The major ones were the browser for BB's are famously slow, the key pad & screen are too small , others complained about certain buttons are stuck or key pad falls into phone.

The browser is not super fantastic, I will admit to that. As far as the keypad and screen go thats all personal preference. I'm guessing both are bigger than what you have now... assuming it's just a regular cell phone. If their buttons are stuck then those tards should get a replacement

Were there any other phones you were looking into?

I use an iPhone for personal, and the BOLD 9700 for business.

At the 10000 foot view, I like the iPhone...

In so far for business use, I have used the Curve 8310, 8520, 9000 and the 9700 - the 9700 is by far and away my favorite blackberry. I like the "touch ball" instead of an actual track ball. It has a fast CPU, lots of memory - the screen resolution is fantastic (although small), it's light and the battery lasts a long time (4 days on standby)...

Although I must say, if it was for personal use - I would not want a Blackberry, for personal use I would check out a droid based phone, or an iPhone (more apps, bigger screens, touch screens)...

I'm have a Razr which is good for calls , for all the abuse it's been through the thing has held up well, however it's on it's way out. The reason I was looking into the Bold was it seems lots of people have them or a Blackberry. Tmobile does have some other smart phones but again I know nothing about them, I'll have to look at them when I go up to pay my bill today, I'll let you know what I see. Thank you for your help Myka:smile:

I think it's a sign of societies downfall that we have to even ask "what kind of phone is best." I know I'm ancient, but I remember when the only decision was "wall or desk model."

you will have to pay extra money to get emails with blackberry, one of the few drawbacks.

Actually, choice in products to purchase is a sign of an advanced society. Before the enlightenment and the emergence of markets, humans lived very short, mostly unhappy lives. When choice and competition come into play, the most people possible benefit. This is why there are 24/7 grocery stores here, but famine prevails in socialist regimes.

^^ we don't need b.s. politics in Tech talk forums .. thank you. ^^

Sweeden and Denmark are doing quite fine staving off that famine ..

It's cool, lots of things to use that I've never had on other phones.
Did you have a Curve?

I'm real curious about the BB OS 6.0 coming out soon(sept?)... I read the previews.... RICH multi media features? I'm thinking the browser will ROCK!

So if you bought the 9700.... Just the software download is needed?

I'm Confused

For any Blackberry that is compatible with the 6.0 operating system there will be a download available. Older models will probably not be able to get this upgrade. The last time I had an OS upgrade an icon was pushed directly to my phone from Verizon.
