"Generation X, commonly abbreviated to Gen X, is the generation born after the baby boom ended, ranging from 1961 to 1981."

Wikipedia never lies! Technically you're in "Generation Y", number96, but I like to think of it more as Generation Rx. It sounds cooler and I think it is more accurate.

Gen X, Gen Y, it's all the same to me.

this morning I was pulling into a gas station when I saw a lady in her 80s with a walker struggling trying to put Gas in her Car… so I stopped and offered my help, poor lady couldn’t even scan her card… while I was fueling for her and talking with her, In the corner of my eye I saw movement inside the car, so I looked, I saw 2 females and one male in their early 20s in the car, maybe her Grandkids, I was shocked to see that neither one of them had the decency to get t off their *** and help her.
Whatever happens to Respect and care for your elders?

Perhaps Granny would not want them to.....fierce independent women of every generation do their own thing, even if it takes half a day to do an hour's job...

Sometimes by allowing an Elder to do what they choose to for themselves IS being respectful....you have seen a two second soundbite into someone's life, and come up with a whole heap of assumptions.

My eldest son of 25, and all his mates, wouldn't DARE do it for me, irrespective of how much I am struggling...they know to wait until I ask for help...no-one likes being patronised.

This poor lady wasn't able to swipe her card to start the pump... when I offered my help, she didn't decline, she was grateful.
the least one of them could've done is to get out of the car and and stand with her.

thats nice,, one confusing thing about our culture(american) is the mixed messages about independence and charity, where people actually feel belittled or insulted by an offer of help

I wish we would be a more charitable culture and receive charity as well as give it,,,,,in a spirit of kindness and appreciation,,,but its wonderful that you were there,,,

There are 'older' people that are jerks too, why is the younger generation always singled out.

Back around Christmas time my battery died at work..everyone was gone and I was locking up, so I walked across the street to an Autozone, figured it would be a good place to ask someone to help me jump the car. Everyone in there was soooo busy they wouldn't and couldn't take 10 minutes to help me. It was 2 young men (mid 20's or so) that were willing to help me.
It works both ways...

I say..ya can't complain about these young people, you raised them!

I blame Emo Phillips too. Haha.

Honestly, I don't think it's a generational thing as much as it is the psychological stigma that's being presented here - the idea that something is to blame. This idea transcends all racial, geographical, and socio-economic boundaries.

Personal responsibility has always been the least entertaining concept to indulge.

This.

the ones I am raising dont do those things though,,,lol

I do see other peoples 'children' who seem to have no concept of respect for others,,,,, and though one never knows what someone else goes through in their life,,, I tend to believe these young people dont TRULY have much to be unhappy about when some parent is providing all their needs and usually most of their wants too

as opposed to a senior, who may have lived a long struggling life which could understandably lead to their potenitally nasty or negative demeanor...

Well Hor...

the more things change..the more they stay the same.

Elvis was gonna be the down fall of civil society with his bootywigglin.

Then it was the Beatles who would destroy the moral fiber of our way of life with thier hair being to long and songs that would lead young women into promiscuity. "I wanna hold your hand"....yeah right...that song made girls pregnant.

In my day it was Ozzy biting the head off a bat and permanently being banned from the city of San Antonio for peeing on the Alamo....Now he is actualy a role model of what a parent should be..telling his kids.."Wear a fuggincondom and dont do drugs..lookat how fuggedup they made me. If Ihad knon I was gonna live this long I wouldnta done em"

Yet, somehow...common courtesy survives in a few to make it through to the next generation.

Think about it! I guarantee you at some point Moses was sitting there b*chen to the Isrealites...."These damned kids got no respect...thier parents dont beat them with a stick nearly as hard as they did back in my day. These pansy @ssed cupcakes will be the downfall of society!"

I got faith that common courtesy will survive my good man...the problem is that you just can't pick up a belt and whip other peoples kids without mercy anymore......Ahhhhh..those were the good old days.

I don't feel I failed as a parent or failed my sons by allowing them to play games and chose their own music (which thankfully isn't rap)
they are quite decent young men, so are many of their friends.

That is one of myBIGGEST peeves!!!

To this day I call my elders Mr or Mrs

so do my girls

these peoe have lived a long life

they deserve the help

some kids I want to bash upside the head for being mean and lazy
if they are not making fun. Then they sit back and watch

I'd kill my girls if they were like that

it has soooo much to do with upbringing and peer pressure cause I've watched kids I know were good succumb(?) to it

ohh I hate it

just think

what if that was your mom or dad

or you? P
