Dumpster diving was one of the coolest parts of my childhood.

My friend became obsessed with collecting couches around the same time I became obsessed with collecting rocks, so we used his house as Jenga/Tetris platform for couches with all the blueprints being held down with the rocks as paperweights.

Fun times.

Last summer my neighbors put a huge color TV at the curb because it didn't get two channels! It makes an excellent XBOX TV though for free!!! That's also how I got my BBQ grill and a bird bath in my yard! drinker

Friend of mine found and old Antique record player it looks just like a grandfather clock has the wireless speakers and all. Someone had put it out at the curb when he moved one time and did not want it anymore he gave it to me. Not only does the turn table still work and all the speakers but has a radio as well that works....bigsmile

I love dumpster diving. I would hoist my boys up in there when they were smaller and have em look around, we had lots of good finds. I had a neighbor come tell me once how gross I was...putting my boys in the trash with old needles and dirty tampons. ohwell

When I was a kid our TV stopped making sound and we had one from the dump that made sound but no picture. We stacked them and tuned them into the same channels. back then we only got 4, 7, 10, 2 on a good day! Depended on the foil you put on the rabbit ears too!

That's funny. Reminds me growing up using an old console tv as a stand for a smaller tv..........laugh

I found a real nice electric typewriter once, in the case with the different cubes for various types of text. Worked great for about 5 years.

Years ago back in the 80s, the city we lived in had a city curb side clean up. So, at time when I had lost my job, we would go around and dig through the stuff people would set out on the curb. Within a week we ahd so much stuff that we decided to take most of it to the swapmeet to sell it. Well. As it turned out. We became regular swapmeet sellers for two years, selling the suff that we would collect off peoples curbs. We were making an average of 700.00- 1,200.00 a week profit. The only reason we quit was because I couldnt handle all the stupid people that goes to swapmeets and expect you to smile and give them the stuff for free. Or the people that would walk up to look at a microwave. And after looking at it for 10 minutes ask you how you change the channels. So. Finally had to give swapmeeting up.sad sad Darn. Was making good money

I'd find chairs for some reason.spock

I found an upolstered chair make from solid oak. It just needed a refresher coat of stain and varnish.

The biggest thing was a dresser with 4 big drawers and 2 small side-by-side ones. It was a real mess. It was wobbly, sun bleached, scratched, missing half it's hardware (heavy brass swing pulls) and it's bottom drawer fell off. It was very well made; none of that fake crap we get nowadays. The owners wanted to burn it so I quickly took it off their hands and fixed it , bought new hardware and refinished it.

That dresser is my baby! I'll put a picture of it on my profile.smile2
