Hello all: (or no one, lol).
Well I was watching The Box the today!
Got me thinking about music and what today’s charts represent!
It made me think about the fact that true artists are a dieing breed.
Look at the last 10 years or Look at the 60’s 70’s 80’s 90’s what does it suggest to you in relation to music.
In today’s society would great artist like meat loaf, Aretha Franklin, Oozy, Buddy Holly, Billy Holiday, Jerry Lee Hooker and hundreds of others iconic artists have made it on the scene! Yes there are some great artist today but not a majority most of today’s artist are the beautiful people, it does not really matter how they sing but what they look like! turning music into a superficial industry rather then an artistic body
Each decade we seem to lose some of the soul that music represents, be it opera to blues to pop
We now have a music industry that spews out pretty girls and boys who do not have the talent as some lesser known artists all because there not astatically pleasing.
A prime example is X factor were semi talent less people are paraded before us as artists, raved about for there skill and talent.
Yes there have been great artist that are also good looking but should there look’s be a factor in there success or should an artist be judged solely on there abilities?
There are good artist out there today but the percentage has been getting smaller and smaller, soon we will be at the point that are no true artist just manufactured singers!

60’s Rock and Roll, Soul and Folk music
70’s Heavy Metal, Punk and Disco (yucky but some people like disco)
80’s True Romantics, hip-hop and Ska
90’s Indie, R&B and Dance
00’s Urban
10’s
What have you done for me lately?

Depends on the view, personally I'm a grunge and punk fan. Both of which have been dead-air for the last 10 or so years. Listen to metal as well, there are some pretty good metal acts hitting out there right now. Pop can burn, and hopefully it does one day.

I'm stuck in the 60's and 70's time warp when it comes to music. Not only is it what I grew up to..I just don't think there are as many poets and artists with that kind of talent these days..of course that is only my opinion and I realize I'm generalizing.

The Spice Girls and Il Divo are just 2 examples of auditions to find the "prettiest" with some talent to put together a group. I'm sure there are many more, I just don't follow that close.

I think the newest music I have is Michael Franti and Spearhead...only been around several years and I do like what he's putting out there.

We have always been a society based on youth and outer beauty....never has this been so clear to me than as I hit my late 40's.

There are those bands and singers who are a step above everyone else form years past, but there are also bands out today 1990 on) who will have that same longevity, guy's like Zombie, Disturbed, Godsmack because they have that "thing" which makes a band great.

Will there ever be another MISFITS, BLACK FLAG, MAIDEN, PRIEST most likely not, but some of the newer acts will fill that gap when they are gone.

If you only listen to what they play on the radio....then yes, the art of music is dead. You have to venture out of the mainstream to find the good stuff. I'm a fan of old school hardcore and metal. Some bands are coming out with new stuff that is great and there are new bands that really making a name fro themselves as well.

well it depends on what genre as Misfits (old school horror punk) =/= Black Flag (hardcore) =/= Maiden (old school melodic metal) =/= Priest (old pure heavy metal and now power metal)

I cannot speak for the punk scene, but there are TONS of bands that in terms of talent and ability have far exceeded Priest and maiden. They just are lacking in the 'originality' factor.

It's beyond me how anybody can call screaming and growling music.

Dont know, maybe it's from the fact there are usually 2 very proficient guitarists, a very proficient bassist, an EXTREMELY proficient drummer. Also, growling / screaming is another instrument.

I disagree entirely. I'd say there's lots of great music nowadays... but we don't hear the vast majority of it because the programming on most radio stations is terrible or from the 90's.

There's still a bunch of good music coming out but you just have to look a little deeper, and thanks to the availability of music we have access to it.

And The Beatles were pop. They were pretty neat.

I actually never really liked The Beatles. Billy Idol is classed as pop too, but brit-pop is entirely different from the pop I'm talking about...I'm on about mainstream pop, which needs to die, soon.

Music was always, will always be, a thriving plant blossoming, innumerable blooms on the vine perpetuated ... flowerforyou

Music biz is the prob dealio ... Ever will their be fresh, inventive, great new artistes and artistry ...

Since time and music began ...

Doesn't mean we'll ever get the opportunity to hear much/most of it, tragically ...

Student always improves on the teacher ...

I’m not saying there is no new and good music out today,
I’m saying main stream music people like Simon cowl, Sony music and other main stream music companies are Promoting faces not talent! If they keep promoting people like Justin Timberlake and Britney spears and other little talent pretty faces what are we going to be left with?
Loads of people around the world listen to main stream believing that what they are hiring is the best there is!
These companies continue to fantasize Music,
The true artists of past decades would not have made it to the Level that they have made it in today society!

The listed talent are underground in there roots but have had mainstream success then returned to there roots to be with there fan base!
I was going to date the listed but that made the post way to long!
Hammerfall 1978
Wizard 1979 if I remember correct?
Approx 15 go there start in 80’s and about 28 got there start in 90’s, so we cant list these as new talent, the list should be made up of talent Like HIM or Skindred Not Old thrash or death metal bands
Look at how many of these have been dropped from there labels and have had to restart some making there own label, some having to be independent, just so they can have there freedom to release un-censored music, and this lowers there distribution!
Its more that underground good music will not get the main stream success of bands and artists of old, promoters are not looking for the new look or the new wave there forcing a trend down out throats!
