You clearly do not understand the depth of the Heavy Metal Underground. While it is true that genuine innovation is hard to come by... ALL of the bands making their mark in the metal underground are worth their weight in salt. Allow me to list some of the names of the thriving metal bands out today. Morbid Angel Slayer Testament Deicide Vital Remains Dying Fetus Hatebreed Crowbar Deeds of Flesh Nile Lamb of God Nevermore Misery Index Megadeth Lich King Evile Toxic Holocaust Municipal Waste Black Label Society Cannibal Corpse Hate Eternal Napalm Death Kreator Panzerchrist Sodom Overkill Annihilator Sabaton Seven Witches Hibria Illdisposed Broken Hope Debauchery Obituary Children of Bodom Kamelot Hammerfall Wizard Heaven and Hell Judas Priest Arch Enemy Dragonland Tyr Dragonlord (NOT Dragonforce) Exodus Falconer Sonata Arctica Symphony X Nagalfar Negator Marduk Nasum Immortal Gamma Ray Vehemence Bolt Thrower Ultimatium Believer Onslaught Warbringer Malevolent Creation Vile Destruction Eliminator Brainstorm Gorgoroth etc You should visit this forum and learn about the true power of metal http://heartofmetal.niceboard.com/ Dont know, maybe it's from the fact there are usually 2 very proficient guitarists, a very proficient bassist, an EXTREMELY proficient drummer. Also, growling / screaming is another instrument. Watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqzlDlZw5kw&feature=related and this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=046qHwVp750&feature=related \m/ ADDENDUM: Add keyboard elements for Fantasy metal and synthesizers for stuff like Fear Factory |

Will there ever be another MISFITS, BLACK FLAG, MAIDEN, PRIEST most likely not, but some of the newer acts will fill that gap when they are gone. well it depends on what genre as Misfits (old school horror punk) =/= Black Flag (hardcore) =/= Maiden (old school melodic metal) =/= Priest (old pure heavy metal and now power metal) I cannot speak for the punk scene, but there are TONS of bands that in terms of talent and ability have far exceeded Priest and maiden. They just are lacking in the 'originality' factor. |
