I disagree entirely. I'd say there's lots of great music nowadays... but we don't hear the vast majority of it because the programming on most radio stations is terrible or from the 90's.

There's still a bunch of good music coming out but you just have to look a little deeper, and thanks to the availability of music we have access to it.

And The Beatles were pop. They were pretty neat.

I won't go on about how much I love The Beatles...

but I'm a big fan of the whole "bubblegum pop" era, give me some 1910 Fruitgum Company!

I think we can find some true artists in jazz music. One example would be Keith Jarret, He has been in the scene for a while, another more recent example could be Kurt Rosewinkel, and there are many others.
To become a true artist we need to forget about making money with music, and that is hard in our society, specially if we spend most of our time studying to be better musicians.

Because your not open minded.
Maybe not but my ears are open and it does nothing but hurt them.

I have to agree. Just because something is loud or complicated does not make it good music. There will always be good music. You certainly have to look alot harder for it anymore........smokin

When Hip Hop took over the "mainstream" in the late 90's, music did die. Now, I am talking "mainstream" because for the longest time all you heard on the major radio stations was hip hop. Nu Metal came along and did bring about some good acts as well, but where was rock? Nothing about rock was in the mainstream. Sure, hard metal acts were around, and those bands had a good following. But in the mainsteam, you really didn't have any succesful acts.

Much as it pains me to say this, Nickleback changed that in 2005. "For All The Right Reasons" was a huge seller, and it brought rock back into the mainstream. Then bands like My Chemical Romance, Shinedown, Boys Like Girls began to have success. None of these bands are "pretty boy" bands, and Boys Like Girls actually is a talented band. Anyways, I feel that rock music is on its' way back to becoming more mainstream again, but even if it doesn't then that does not mean music is "dead".
