would be interesting,, to see what life would be like if we suddenly allowed those FIVE people per open job who arent hired to just have NOTHING,,,,,,,,,IM sure it would be as wise as letting loose the mentally ill from the institutions,,,,but time will tell people dont starve gracefully,,,,,while others live off the RESIDUAL efforts they have put in,, If only ten thousand a month are dropped from the unemployment role and spread those being dropped all over the country, no one would really notice and it wouldn't even make the news. There are folks starving in this country. Just need to get out a little and inform yerself. First place you might check is your overcrowded County Jail and ask how many broke the law because them and their family were hungry. |

" ... people dont starve gracefully,,,,,while others live off the RESIDUAL efforts they have put in,, ... " Do I detect ENVY of the people who had the FORESIGHT to put in those 'residual efforts' ... ? Or would you prefer that everyone be 'equal' in the sharing of the misery ... ? One more triumph of the 'collectivist' philosophy ... |

Where are people getting a 1,000 a month. I was getting 326! Now, when dad is unemployed he gets close to that, but he's a Union workeer, and is generally making 25-40 an hour when he works, so it still doesn't balance out, but it's the max Texas provides. I thought it was supposed to be proportional to the amount that you made before - which is proportional to the amount that you'd paid into it. |

Here where I live..they look back 18 months and find the quarter year that you made the most money. They then calculate 60% of that wage ( after calculating the average hourly wage based on a 40 hour work week), and that is what you get for benefits. I think the maximum you can collect here is 368 dollars per week. |

I think it's something like that, up to the states max limit, which is what dad gets. |

" ... no more than I would be envious of a pimp or a dictator,, getting fat off the efforts of others and throwing them to the dogs when their times get difficult,,, " I would gladly make sense of that 'statement' if there were any to be made ... that's a complete disconnect from reality-based communication ... it is, however, a wonderful example of 'class warfare'-based 'philosophy' ... |

ok, a simpler analogy,,,,
no more than I am jealous of those who are naive enough to believe meritocracy exists,,,that the wealthy 'earned it' and the poor 'dont work hard enough' |
|
|
|
Meritocracy DOES exist ... but since 'merit' means something must be EARNED rather than given out like prizes from the bottom of a CrackerJack box, those people who are conditioned to think they should automatically be 'awarded' something for which they are not qualified means that others who actually WORK to ACHIEVE goals are being 'unfairly' rewarded. Once more, the 'GIMME!' and 'I WANTS MIINEZ!' 'philosophy sees what it wants to see rather than acknowledging what WORKS ... Jealousy and envy go only so far in the real world - after that, people gotta know something. The ones that do, well, they get ahead. The ones that don't ... ? Well ...

Obviously the children of the super-wealthy didn't 'earn' their position in life, and I'm not a huge fan of a system that allows someone to position themselves to make a huge amount of ongoing profit without continuing to 'contribute'...
...but amongst the lower classes its obvious that a kind of meritocracy does exist, and the blatant denial of that meritocracy is exactly one of the causes for some people's poverty and suffering. Those who budget themselves, those who practice self restraint in their spending, those who manage or eliminate their addictions, those who make intelligent decisions with an eye to the future, those who work hard, those who invest wisely in their education.. ....those people will tend to have an financial advantage over those who don't. Amongst those who don't, there are those who complain that its all 'someone else's fault'. |

there are those who blame others,,,thats a personality flaw
but an idea of meritocracy where everyone who has 'earned it' and everyone who doesnt 'didnt work hard enough' is a naive view held by far too many meritocracy blatantly overlooks the inequality of opportunity ingrained in a system of class and power,,,where even if those who did well worked hard they were given more opportunities to do so than those who were not working any less diligently and still found themselves scraping by and where a great majority of 'success' comes from a networking of who one knows (or is in the position to know) |

What happened to 'nuff said' ... ? nuff said was last nights conversation, where your post pretty much made the point of what I had been saying this morning,,someone else added something different , to which I am responding |

there are those who blame others,,,thats a personality flaw The tendency to blame others seems to be magnified amongst those who deny there is an authentic meritocratic aspect to our system; when we tell people that 'there is no meritocracy', well I think we are encouraging people to blame others for their position in life. If there was truly no meritocracy, then for many there would be no point in trying to lift oneself up. but an idea of meritocracy where everyone who has 'earned it' and everyone who doesnt 'didnt work hard enough' is a naive view held by far too many
I agree with you, here. and where a great majority of 'success' comes from a networking of who one knows (or is in the position to know) Oh, yeah, I forgot to add that to my list.... "those who deliberately network". |
