Stay

Alsion Krauss & Union Station - one of my favorite songs

Here's a monumental bit of Trivia - Did you know that Bill Monroe did not consider the Dobro fit for his Bluegrass band?

ya,sad2

looks like I'm here alone with my music. I used to search for ways to explain the importance of Hillbilly blues ~ and other kinds of folk music. I guess the best thing to say is that nothing else would exist without it as far as popular musicflowerforyou

thanks to the strummers out there

I just recent;y heard some Sara Evans for the first time and it's great!! She's great, I agree.
I like Taylor Swift too, and want to take some time soon to pay some serious attention to her music.

And Rascal Flatts!!!!!? Yes YES YES!

Have you listened to Sugarland at all?

Oh I definitely should have had Sugarland on my list. Taylor Swift grew up only 10 minutes from where I live before her family moved to Nashville. She still has many ties here and, of course, we all follow her closely.

I'm glad you are getting to know some of the new ones. Carrie Underwood is another young woman with a fantastic voice.

Yes, I agree. I have also heard Carrie Underwood, and I think she's great! Tonight I'll be listening to a lot of Dixie Chicks as I am working on a project to restore more than six thousand (count them) music files - music filled night for me.

I just finished with a little Taj Mahal (blues)

at the moment I am listeningflowerforyou to Patty Loveless again who has been my favorite singer for many many years. I haven't listened to her in awhile, but now I am listening to Strong Heart and once again am reminded why she has been my favorite for so long.

Conway Twitty......That is all!!!!!!!
IDK as much about the old time crooners - I did see Ernest Tubbs in concert just before he died (couple yrs B4), and Bill Monroe cuz - just cuz - saw Merle Haggard with Carlene Carter years ago, but Merle - great tho he was - it's not quite my style of hillbilly blues.

Maybe I'll have to give Conway another listen.......waving

ya, not really into the glitz of the old timers so much - I'm more of a folk and Bluegrass fan and some of the newer songsters - some psychobilly/rockabilly - altho I remember seeing Earl Scruggs & Lester Flatts, and always been fascinated by the steel guitar - and I love fiddle - love bands like Dixie Chicks, Sugarland, Antebellum, Alison Krauss & Union Station - like I said more Hillbilly Blues and country swing than country crooners - love Dwight

what about the singer song writers?
Haggard,Kristofferson,John Prine,Steve Earl,Willie Nelson.
All true modern day poets with voices resembling gravel roads and a message.

that does sound just like John Prine - gosh haven't thought about him in ages - Loudon Wainwright - Dylan really dominated the singer/songwriter scene when I was younger......never a big Steve Earl or Willie Nelson fan - just not my thing - but I have friends who thought Willie Nelson walked on water and his Farm Aide thing was pretty righteous!!! fr shure:thumbsup:

In that venue prob more into the ladies - Joan Baez,Judy Collins, Emmy Lou - tho they didn't write all their own stuff - hey that's what made Dylan so awesome -IDthink he ever recorded anything he didn't write did he?

I never got into Dylan, I just down loaded a bunch of Leonard Cohen, a man who would go hungry singing on a street corner if he wasn't a wordsmith. As far as Steve Earl going try his stuff after 2000,when he got of jail and got off the dope he reverted to a very basic acoustic word/story based style that is very moving.

Dylan ? give a listen to All Along The Watchtower - Hendrix also records it on Electric Ladyland (his best) -He also wrote a lot of songs that other people also recorded - I mean you prolly like him and don't even realize itlaugh

I never knew a lot about Leonard Cohen - tho had friends who were really into him. Good suggestion for my research thanks
