8 in 10 people today say they do NOT trust the federal 'government' and have little faith it can solve the problems facing this nation. Ummm ... does this come as a surprise to any other than the little lickspittles who have trouble thinking and tying their shoes at the same time ... ? No. In a very positive sense of the term, "the handwriting's on the wall" ... Wait 'til November to see precisely how distrustful people are of this 'government' and its high-handed 'fiat government' ... November 3, 2010 will be a happy day when we can start dismantling this overgrown, self-serving 'government' whose approach is nothing more complex than 'Do as I say, not as I do' ... Public confidence in government is at one of the lowest points in a half century, according to a survey from the Pew Research Center. Nearly 8 in 10 Americans say they don't trust the federal government and have little faith it can solve America's ills, the survey found. The survey illustrates the ominous situation President Barack Obama and the Democratic Party face as they struggle to maintain their comfortable congressional majorities in this fall's elections. Midterm prospects are typically tough for the party in power. Add a toxic environment like this and lots of incumbent Democrats could be out of work. The survey found that just 22 percent of those questioned say they can trust Washington almost always or most of the time and just 19 percent say they are basically content with it. Nearly half say the government negatively affects their daily lives, a sentiment that's grown over the past dozen years. This anti-government feeling has driven the tea party movement, reflected in fierce protests this past week. "The government's been lying to people for years. Politicians make promises to get elected, and when they get elected, they don't follow through," says Cindy Wanto, 57, a registered Democrat from Nemacolin, PA, who joined several thousand for a rally in Washington on April 15 - the tax filing deadline. "There's too much government in my business. It was a problem before Obama, but he's certainly not helping fix it." Majorities in the survey call Washington too big and too powerful, and say it's interfering too much in state and local matters. The public is split over whether the government should be responsible for dealing with critical problems or scaled back to reduce its power, presumably in favor of personal responsibility. About half say they want a smaller government with fewer services, compared with roughly 40 percent who want a bigger government providing more. The public was evenly divided on those questions long before Obama was elected. Still, a majority supported the Obama administration exerting greater control over the economy during the recession. "Trust in government rarely gets this low," said Andrew Kohut, director of the nonpartisan center that conducted the survey. "Some of it's backlash against Obama. But there are a lot of other things going on." And, he added: "Politics has poisoned the well." |

I heard 8 out of 10 don't trust the government. regardless of the party in charge I don't, I think we need to put the government on a choke collar. This election i hope 60% of incumbents are fired, but I will be happy with 30%. Get the career politicians out of Washington and get fresh blood in there and maybe I feel differently for a while. |

Nearly 30,000 people in 28 countries were asked to rate countries on their positive impact upon the world. This year 46% of the respondents rated the US's influence as positive - the first time since 2005 that the survey returned more positive votes than negative for America. "After a year, it appears the 'Obama effect' is real" said Steven Kull director Program on International Policy Attitudes (Pipa) at the University of Maryland, who helped conduct the poll. But when you think about it(I think about it because I JUST watched a special on it), most other countries who had access to view our jim crow practices were in disbelief while those here found it to be fairly reasonable. Change is always scary, the unknown,, sometimes its scarier than sticking to what you know(even when its not working well). But time is always the great equalizer and time always tells. |

Oh, 'the Obama Effect' is, unfortunately, all TOO real ... which is why 80% of the respondents said they don't trust Washington. Those responses are a referendum on 'Dear Comrade Leader', 'Obama the Most Munificient' (PBUH) ... No one's gonna give him a 'pass' or cover for his failure this November ... or in 2012.

Yeah, just watch all those who want government out of their lives start screaming for government unemployment checks when they lose their jobs, or start crying "where's the government?" when their cities get flooded or blown down by a tornado. And when their neighborhood is overrun by thugs and drug dealers who do you think they are going to call? The Tea Party? I don't see any "Tea Partyers" out fixing the roads or coming up with any solutions to health care costs. I don't see them doing anything to try and get the economy going either.

That's what McCain and Lieberman were talking about in thw 2000 presidential election, campaign finance reform is the most important thing that can be done. Corporations and special interests have too much money and will pay congress to not pass such legislation, that is why IMO we must fire the the incumbents in November. I'm hoping to see 60% but will be happy with 30% getting fired. |
