Icelandic volcanic ash alert grounds UK flights
The volcanic ash plume in Iceland and Glasgow's deserted airport terminal
All flights in and out of the UK and several other European countries have been suspended as ash from a volcanic eruption in Iceland moves south.

Up to 4,000 flights are being cancelled with airspace closed in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark among others.
The UK's air traffic control service (Nats) said no flights would be allowed in UK airspace until at least 0700 BST on Friday amid fears of engine damage.

Safety group Eurocontrol said the problem could persist for 48 hours.
The airspace restriction was the worst in living memory, a Nats spokesman said. Some 600,000 people are thought to have been affected.
Nats suggested that the restrictions were unlikely to be lifted after 0700, saying saying it was "very unlikely that the situation over England will improve in the foreseeable future".

At this point, it appears that it will last, or at least cause problems, for longer than 48 hours.

global warming caused this...

when you have a rise in co2 and you add the glaciers melting plus the polar bears dying that equals a tilting in the earths axis which causes the oceans to rise and then you have an uneven distribution of hybrid cars in europe and suvs in north america which causes the flattening of the earths crust and that forces red hot molten magma from the earths core which creates a black hole in the troposphere and that allows solar radiation to enter the atmosphere which causes the subduction zones at the edges of the plates to rub forcing the red hot molten magma to disperse along the channels created by under ground nuclear testing facilities which then leads to more radiation and then tornadoes start whipping up dust which blocks the sun at the equator in turn allows the melting glaciers on Mt Everest to slide down the mountain creating an earthquake that causes the red hot molten magma to come out of a hole in iceland giving the british another reason to go to the pub and GET PISSED..

I hope that explains it..

Someone should throw that volcano in jail!It probably emitted more CO2 than Al gores and Pelosis private jets combined all year.Perhaps Obama can fine that country where that volcano erupted because that volcano is leaving a very, very large carbon footprint and emitting a massive amount of CO2 into the atmosphere. They should have spent trillions dumping ice into the volcano so it wouldn't have spewed all that CO2 damaging our "fragile ecosystem" and bringing the world to Al gores "tipping point" and "the point of no return".

If there is any justice in this world Al gore will be sent to prison in the coldest part of Alaska where he can carve ice sculptures all day and write books on how he pulled the biggest scam in Americas history.

I was just listenin' to the latest on NPR ...

Yeah, closed air space has been extended to Holland, France, Belgium ...

... and will keep closing space as it makes its way to Russia.

Looks like it is going to take some time to clear!

We are still flightless. Around a million Brits alone are stuck abroad , some running out of money and in some cases medication.
Almost everyone I have spoken to has been affected by this...it has become a lot more serious than first anticipated.

Yep ... Talked to my best friend in England (Ashford) today ...

... His wife and lass are stranded in the Canaries ...

Said folks outta dosh to pay for room are gettin' moved to flea bag dumps!

A carrier ship is on way to pick them up ...

2 other of my UK (London) friends said it sure is quiet living by Heathrow for now.

... Everyone is so shocked to finally hear the birds singing ...

Talked to my friends from Cork and Dublin, as well, same holding pattern frustration ...

Partic as it coincided w/ so many folks' Spring break ...

We're still trying to figure out if my brother and his friends will be able to leave tomorrow. It's excruciating because the situation changes like..by the hour.

Ummmm ... anybody seen AlGore since the volcano started spewing ... ? He usually runs around during an event like this saying it's all happening because of 'MAN-made global warming' ... he ain't nowhere to be found ... but his little minions are ... 'The sky is falling! We're all gonna DIE ... !' But as long as we pay our 'Carbon Tax', we can be forgiven 'cuz we'll have bought the modern version of an 'indulgence' to cut short our time spent in 'Carbon Purgatory' ...
