My BIL hunts wild turkey and this year we decided to cook one of them. I have never had wild turkey and I have no idea how to cook it. Any suggestions?

Here is a site that has different ways in cooking it I suggest the Cajun deep fried way yummmy makes the turkey taste awesome of course make sure if you do to deep fry in peanut oil more expensive but worth it within the taste..

There is no difference between cooking a wild turkey and a backyard one. The wild turkey will not have injected water, fat, and flavorings so it will naturally be less moist but that really isn't a negative. Cook it exactly like you like your turkey.

My favorite is to slow smoke them on the BBQ pit but you may not have that option. Another good way is to Broast (broil roasted) which is a combination of butterfly, broil, and roasting. I like it because it cooks in half the time of just roasting. Julia Child recommends this method.

Thanks all... but, I am trying to talk my way out of cooking this thing now.lol I don't think it will be any good.
He usually gives the turkeys away when he gets them.

I think it is going to be all dark meat if i'm not mistaken?

Oh damn. You should have TOLD US you wanted an excuse to NOT cook it, then ...

Here's one:

"I'm extremely allergic to the skin of any wild fowl" ... does that work?

How 'bout:

"Ewwwwwwww yuck! WILD TURKEY? How could you be so cruel? That's one of God's creatures and you just KILLED it! Ewwwwwwwww!"

No good? Well, there's always ...

"Ummm, do I hafta use 20-weight or 40-weight oil for this? Can't I use the synthetic stuff?"

If THAT don't get ya off the hook ...

I'm just sayin' ..

Put it in a brine...enough water to cover and 1 cup salt...leave about 4 hours then rinse and cook as you would a regular turkey. It wuill be seasoned and moist.

No sugar? I always add sugar to a brine ... in addition to the salt ...

make sure and get all the lead out.

the breast is probably the only part worth eating but it is
not hard to get it off. here is a video which shows a hunter
doing a breast fillet. perhaps he will do the fillet for you
and then all you have to do is bake or fry and enjoy!

don't let the dawg get into it!
