I got a young female a couple of months ago. I called around last weekend to get prices on getting her fixed. My vet wants 175$ includes shots. Heaven can wait-75. No one less than that. WTF !!!!!!
YOu see all these ads- spay your pet, but its too pricy. No wonder people don't. Come on you phonies, if you REALLY cared- you'd set up clinics for free or based on income. I can't afford to lay out that kind of $ at one pop. Just got my meager income refund and will be able to catch up on all my bills! Maybe I will have enough but thats just ridiculous. Wonder of Utah is cheaper?

$175 is actually cheap. In Va it cost me almost $300 when it was all said and done.

Try the Low Cost Centers to spay and neuter your pets had my dog done this last year cost me $75 and only cause she was pregnant at the time or I could have gotten it done for $50 they are all over the USA just have to look for them...

Here is one for you to look into....

http://spayneuterlv.com/custom_content/c_29847_fees__pricing.html

Hope this one helps if not they most likely can guide you to one that will or some will send you a coupon to use with your local vet as well...bigsmile

The regular Vets here wanted to charge me up to $250 till I did my research....noway

I had to drive 30 miles in order to get the appointment within the time frame I needed since she was already pregnant but it was well worth the savings....bigsmile

Hey, babe ... flowerforyou

Our Humane Society does it for much less ...

They've done sliding scale too ...

Explain that you saved the wee kitty from homelessness and you are subsisting on low income ...

Yes, call vets too and plea poverty and need!

Also try this site and see if they have one in your area.....

I tried the Humane Society but in order to get it done there we were talking about almost a 6 months waiting period and extra paper work I found that the Low cost Vets were actually much sooner got my dog in the following week and cheaper.

Actually you can go to the Humane Society web page within your area and if you look over it they will have referrals to other places in the area to get it done quicker and cheaper. The one in my area actually had the place I used listed for they were funded by donations in order to make the services cheaper to the public. bigsmile

I REALLY want to thank each of you for the information you posted.
When I was young beleived in letting the cat have one litter but these days, the horror stories I've heard- esp here- am just not going to let her. Been working very hard on keeping her in the frontt and back little fenced spaces, shes almost 6 months and is actually a real scairty cat. She was a resue from a foster @ 4 weeks- got her @ 4 months and no one handled her so she's taken alot of patience and love but coming around.
I had a male here, they neutered him (this was about 8 years ago) and after about a year started spraying all over the house! Never heard of that- always had cats back east and all the vets here said thats how we do it?!?!?? Finally put him outside until it got to hot after 2 wks started in again.Took him back to the vet (I was in tears, he was my kitty that got right during the beginning of my cancer.) and said fix him right or I will not keep him. They gave him to someone else, I pray.
Anyway- thank you again.

If she's not as people friendly, you may also look into a local equivalent of Feral Friends/BarnCats. They usually do the spay/neuter fairly cheap as well, since most of their cats are rehomed to barns and such, where they're not handled. And since you'll end up keeping her and working with her that should make them happy.

Also, see if you can't hit up the local cat rescues, and see if they're willing to get her in under their name, since many vets have local deals worked out. That's what I've done with mine, especially the pot-belly pigs, and the local group I deal with, Atlasta Home Sanctuary.

And the low-cost spay neuters that others have been mentioning. Kaufman County has one that's 25.00 for males, and 35.00 for females on cats, and 42/47 on dogs.

It can be a pain in the neck, and I agree that it should be easier and cheaper.

G'luck!

I ran into the same problem. Even the local SPCA and Humane Association both charge a "reduced" fee of $99 if you go to a specific doctor; and that does NOT include anesthesia!!! Very frustrating. frustrated frustrated

I don't know what happens in other parts of the USA, but here in Milwaukee County -at the Wisconsin Humane Society- if you adopt a kitten up to 6 mo., it's $150; between 6-12mos, $100; more than 12mos, free. All these prices include spay/neuter and shots, plus a first visit free at participating vets. My two cats were 100 total, because Stewie was 9 mos, while Brian was right at 1 year.
I guess what I'm getting at is this: folks, unless you are a breeder, get your next pet cat at your local humane society. While it may not be totally free, it will be more affordable than picking a kitten out of somebody's litter-and you'll have some guarantee of your new cat's health.

It's very important do spay her, especially if she's an outdoor cat. Ask your vet about a payment plan, they may be willing to work with you.

Hi: did you check out the ASPCA, or what ever the organization is in your state? they charge 20 bucks for spay/neuter & rabies and all other shots are included. I know they do that here in NY, I am sure your state has a rescue center.

ok, I didnt read all the posts here, i just jumped the gun and wrote to you. however, though the local spca costs so much to adopt, that is true, they do provide the services you need at very low cost prices. Congratulations on rescuing the cat. I've rescued 2 and 3 huskies. Have a great weekend. Mary
