Is it really that bad? Come on, I'm sorry you lost your father, I would feel the same. Smokers face a tough time these days, and most of the time, we are forced outdoors. Many of us do want to quit, we just need the right motivation and support to do so. So before you write us off, maybe a little compassion is in order instead of shame and ridicule. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I just want all of us to get along. And maybe we can try to help each other.

Gimme a break dude. I'm suppose to feel sorry for you because you decided to start smoking and can't stop. C'mon... If you wanted to quit you would. And on top of that "smokers have a tough time these days." Please!!!... whatever. whoa

No, don't feel sorry, just understand. That's all. We don't try to justify smoking. Just try to live the habit and pay the price. Hopefully someone or something will break the chains of this horrible addiction.flowerforyou

My ex smoked and he tried mints; cologne but I could smell it on his clothes, his hair, and even on his skin; so I agree nothing can cover that smell.

Well I don't smoke cause

1). I watched my beloved daddy die of lung cancer fr smoking
it's a horrible thing to see someone you love go through

2) it stinks. People who smoke stink of it. Then the ones who put perfume on smell like perfume and smoke! Their hair. Their clothes. Their homes their breathe really reek of smoke

3) it is like kissing an ashtray

I am sorry to hear about your father. I absolutely agree with you about the smell; there is nothing that can mask it but the smokers don't realize just how bad they smell until they quit. I am alergic to the smell myself so like you I could never date a smoker.

Yes, its really that bad and yes us non smokers do write you off. The right motivation should be for your health. You need to do this for you and no one else. My compassion went out the window for smokers when I got a black spot on my lung from second hand smoke.

What kills me is I'm and ex smoker that some talk about but not all ex smokers are as some speak of.

Some seem to generalize ex smokers but then don't want to be generalized themselves. whoa slaphead

Funny thing I quit 7 years ago this last January. Did I enjoy smoking? Hell yeah I did or I would not have smoked for as long as I did. I quit for my own reasons I did not need anyone to feel sorry for me cause I was a smoker nor did I need anyone to ride my arse to stop either. When the time comes and one really WANTS TO QUIT they will.......

Does smokers bother me? Noooooooooooooo I have yet to meet a smoker that is not considerate of non smokers.

Matter of fact I just left this last Monday and rode with a friend of mine that is a truck driver just got back today. He smokes just like I use to like a freight train and could toot his own horn.  I was amazed for I thought being in the truck with him all that time would bother me. But not once did I have a problem with it he rolled down his window each time the air was on but he would have put it out if I had of asked him..

As far as kissing and ashtray sorry but that line just makes me shake my head for I have yet ever kissed someone that smokes and it made me think of and ashtray. noway For if it did I would be more worried on their hygiene over all whoa

Yeah and this is coming from and ex smoker!!!!!!!!!!!!

Would I date a smoker duhhhhhhhhhhhhh yeah and have many times the only thing I ask of them is not to smoke in my house or my car and we will get along just fine.......bigsmile

I think its completely different for an ex-smoker to a non smoker. When I kiss a smoker, he does indeed taste like an ashtray. As non-smokers all our lives, we are completely sensitive to any smoke smell and sorry to say but most smokers are not considerate. They don't care if they blow smoke in your face and even more frustrating throw their cigarettes out of their car windows. This causes grass fires, pollution, and being a motorcycle rider got the dam hot butt in my neck and got burned.

Okay I will admit that at times there are some that I can actually smell the cigarette smoke on them and their clothing. But to elaborate and say that they taste like and ashtray? Sorry but if I got that close surely if they smelled that bad why the heck would my lips touch theirs.

Sure at times some smokers are not considerate of non smokers I mean you are going to find that some people in general are not considerate of others regardless what the situation is. But one can not say that all smokers are the same way....

As far as the ones that throw then out the window well it is not always the smokers that throw stuff out of the windows our roads are littered with trash that even non smokers throw out.... But......that is a whole new thread litter bugs drive even me up the tree......grumble

I agree no one should litter but other litter doesn't start fires or burn unsuspecting victims like me. Surely all cars have ashtrays and they also hang their cigarettes out their car windows so again; I am inhaling their smoke as motorcycle rider and a bicycle rider. You are right there are lots of inconsiderate people out there but their inconsideration doesn't threaten my health unless they are a bad driver. My ex would brush his teeth and I could still taste the smoke. I loved the man and cared for him; why wouldn't I kiss him? I just ended the relationship it as my health is far more important than his habit. I guess my bigggest beef is when they smoke in non designated areas; like a bike rack beside a health store; and again throwing their butts on the ground.

Well I'm with you on all those issues even as and ex smoker throwing out the butts out the window or on the ground always has been a pet peeve of mine. Trash is trash put it in the container it belongs within.

But I would never end a relationship nor let one develop due to the other one smoked. I guess mainly due to I have found that so many do smoke that I seem to meet.whoa

But I do find it strange that with some I can smell the smoke on them and others I can not but yet they smoke the same kind of cigarettes.

But..........now you put me in and enclosed area with them smoking and it does get to me. shocked

Yeah, I am seeing the trend of lots of smokers; guess thats why I don't date much. I am also into fitness so smoking or someone that doesn't exercise doesn't appeal to me. Guess I am being picky but with the smoking; I have an allergy; just the smell will make me ill; so its more a health problem than a preference.
